MaxBass Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 http://cteco.uconn.edu/map_catalog/maps/lake/bathymetry/Bathymetry_With_Aerial_Tyler_Lake.pdf Hi, I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on fishing this lake (copy URL above into browser for lake map) in the summer? I've tried many tactics, but they all seem to fail miserably. I am Kayak fishing so any location is accessible. Help would be MUCH appreciated Quote

Super User WRB Posted August 15, 2014 Super User Posted August 15, 2014 Welcome, Your lake is a classic bowl shape reservior, what isn't typical is the dam area is shallow! This lake may have been a natural lake and the dam added to raise water level and control flooding. The dam isn't a significant structure in the lake. So let's dissect this little lake based on the map you referred to. Spawning is the opposite end of the dam, north, there are 2 coves, however bass could also spawn anywhere around docks. Summer the bass move out towards deeper water, the point that divides the two spawning coves, same on the south end, are two area. Now let's take a look at the 6 to 9 to 12 foot elevation lines and determine where they come close together, near a point or dock, those are good areas. Tom Quote
kikstand454 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Agreed! I would spend almost all my time this time of year on those docks and the drop offs on sandy beach road. Shaky head those docks.... try to find some irregularities on the drop off and fish those with cranks and a c-rig. Throw a 1/2oz jig EVERYWHERE along there. Come fall that same area may be teeming with shad, and they will be moving back towards that shallow end on the north. All winter long, that bank is still the best place. The only time I wouldn't focus most of my energy there would be late winter and spring when the prespawn and spawn are on. Good luck! Quote
MaxBass Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Thanks, what about topwater fishing this lake? Quote
kikstand454 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 This time of year? Lol. .... a zara spook around those docks. Or a frog. There may be fish shallow from there, all the way up to those grassy spawning coves on the north. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 16, 2014 Super User Posted August 16, 2014 Thanks, what about topwater fishing this lake? You are located in CT, what type of bass are in this lake, LMB and/ or Smallmouth?Top water in the summer is usually better during low light periods, dawn or dusk for about an hour. Drop shot or split shot finesse worms during the mid day. Texas rigged worms and jigs during anytime and at night. You have several docks to try with skipping lure under or next to. Tom PS, type of bass determine both location and lure selection plus type of prey available. Quote
