Super User OkobojiEagle Posted August 15, 2014 Super User Posted August 15, 2014 I read tonight that the Arbogast Jitterbug was introduced in 1938, that's 76 years ago. Hey, I occasionally fish one of those! That got me thinking... have we tossed aside effective baits just because a newer model showed up on the market? What's the oldest bait (model, not individual) you still fish at least a couple times each season? oe ( I tie my own hair jigs, but I don't think the lead jig head can claim 76 years.) Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 15, 2014 Super User Posted August 15, 2014 My actual oldest lures I own is probably creek chub injured minnows or jitterbugs, I have a bunch that are 30+ years old... Quote

Super User WRB Posted August 16, 2014 Super User Posted August 16, 2014 Hair jigs date back into the 1800's, Al Foss started his pork rind lures in 1915. I made my jig mold that is still used today in 1971 and fish these hair jigs nearly every outing. The early Jitter Bugs are wooden models and I fish the wooden musky size occasionally at night.
