Balshy Fishing Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 First & foremost, I've only had luck with senko's so far. If I catch a fish, it's on a senko, light green pumpkin w/ small red flake to be exact. I've caught ONE with a white fluke, one with a Rage Tail Structure Bug and two with a bass pro tournament series crankbait. I just need some "overhaul advice" on some things. 1. What is YOUR determination on using a hardbait vs a plastic? [crankbait, etc vs. worm/rage products] 2. I currently have PB&J, Blue Craw & Summer Craw Structure Bugs and I use the Siebert Outdoors Twistlock Weighted Hooks. What is the determination on color out of those three and when to throw? 3. I have one pack of rage craws in summer craw and I know I use them with rocky bottoms, correct? 4. As far as zoom products go, I have two bags of flukes[white pearl & baby bass], two bags of horny toads[white & green pumpkin w/ pearl], a pack of finesse watermelon red worms and the 6" watermelon gold glimmer trick worm. I know how to work the flukes and have a good idea of where and same with the toads[although I can't get a bite with them to save my life]. Do I dropshot the worms or should I learn how to t-rig? I don't own any bullet weights or anything so I have no clue. 5. Rage Toad vs. Horny Toad = Rage goes more with choppy and windy conditions as horny toads are more for calm? 6. I own a 1/8 Micro-Chatterbait with chartreuse & white skirt and I put a chartreuse twister tail as a trailer on it. Where is the best place to run that and is that more of a clear water bait? 7. I think you throw dark crankbaits when it's muddy and more natural colors and yellow's when it's clear? I'm hoping I get a few answers here and just jog my mind with the answers here. Any & all answers are highly appreciated! Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 14, 2014 Super User Posted August 14, 2014 It would be a looong post if someone gave you answers for all of those questions! I would reccomend reading previous post and a lot of articles on this website using the search feature and once you've narrowed down the question(s) ask again! Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 I don't need detailed stuff, just something quick to a few of 'em. Quote
Super User Marty Posted August 14, 2014 Super User Posted August 14, 2014 1. I'll often opt for crankbaits when the water is weed-free enough to allow their use. 4. I'd chalk up your inability to get bites on these to using them in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even if you're not fishing by the book, you should be getting some bites on these lures if there's fish in the area. 7. That's the conventional wisdom (except for clear water it's not yellow but muted colors). However, the bass don't know the conventional wisdom and they strike colors all the time that defy that conventional wisdom. You can start out with the standard colors, but don't be afraid to change colors if need be. Over the years I've lots of strikes on muted cranks in heavily stained water and loud colors in clear water. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 14, 2014 Super User Posted August 14, 2014 1. There are soooo many hard baits and Soo many plastics that is a broad question... 2. You don't need to worry a whole lot about color starting out, just throw the colors you ha ve the most confidence in! 3. The rage craw diffently doesn't have to be thrown on a rocky bottom, they can be fished pretty much anywhere and will produce. 4. Dropshotting the finesse worms or flukes can produce very well sometimes, but he Texas rig is a rig everyone should get familiar with. I reccomend buying some hooks and sinkers and practicing the Texas rig! 5. You got that pretty figured out, but they will both produce in both conditions on then right days... 6. I don't fish chatterbaits someone else will have to chime in on that.... 7. For clear water ethier bright or natural colors produce well for me, in muddy/low via water I have much more confidence in a bright color like chartreuse than black, for crankbaits that is. There's my quick answers, but again I'm sure all these questions have been answered in the past with much much more detail, give em a search! Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted August 15, 2014 Author Posted August 15, 2014 Appreciated y'all, I know what I'm doing and a decent amount I'm just looking for some extra advice especially cause I've been shut out the last two days. I'm used to river fishing, not lake fishing Quote
