Question: Does anyone remember a few years back when Chris Paul was leaving the hornets and he was going to get traded to the Lakers and the league turned it down because they said it would make one team overpowered. Isn't Kevin Love going to the Cavaliers going to cause the same thing? Just wanting to get someones else's thoughts.

The NBA doesn't make sense to me when it comes to these trades.  The let the Lebron, Bosh, Wade thing go through.  Other teams followed as best they could.  The CP3 trade or Love trade to me is no different.

The trade wasn't nixed because it was going to make a team overpowered.  And the league didn't stop the trade per se except for the fact that the league was in control of the hornets at the time. They felt they were not getting appropriate value which is debatable.

 

The league doesn't veto trades.  It can stop a trade if there was tampering involved like working out an extension with the superstar prior to the trade or recruiting the player in the off limits period.
