LApanic Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 So, I saw a Japanese video several months ago that peaked my interest on this bait. Not only did it look like a Devil-horse, one of my personal favorite topwater baits, put it was suspending with a fall like a Lipless crank bait. Fresh off the boat, as some would say, they look like a fish catcher for sure instead of a fisherman catcher. Compared to a Lucky Craft Pointer in price ($14-$17) isn't too much for me to give it a try, unlike the Megabass Vision 110 (i'll stick with a Luck-e-strike RC STX for a 3 treble jerk bait.) But, wanted to know your thoughts on this bait, Have you tried one? Caught fish? What was the conditions? Every video and review I've read has recommended 4-10# line on spinning tackle, in clear water?? Duo Realis has a G-fix Spinbait 80, that is beefed up for casting gear which is more my speed, but being in South Alabama, clear or gin clear water is almost impossible to find. So what's everyone's thoughts? Thanks for sharing! Quote
PondHopper96 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 don't mean to steal your thread but do these things cast pretty far? Quote
LApanic Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 With their weight system, I think they do with light line and spinning tackle, so a review video said, braid to flour leader Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted August 12, 2014 Super User Posted August 12, 2014 If you don't have clear water, 3' visibility being minimum for water clarity, then this isn't going to be too good. The bait is subtle, it isn't going to move a lot of water and the triggering qualities on this bait are 100% visual and it has held up so far. We tried it in my waters which are clear a lot but bad T-storms will dirty the water up as will algae blooms in summer. We fished it in clear water in ares we marked fish and have tried it on 8lb line which really hampered the action. We found 6lb was about the best bet but when we marked fish and tried in water with a heavy stain, a little less than 2' visibility, we didn't get a sniff, in fact we used it for about 3 hours without a bump, in clear water it only took a few cast to get bit. After what I experienced I'd say if you aren't in an area with somewhat clear water then it isn't going to be anything more that a space taker or a neat keychain if you remove the hooks. 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted August 13, 2014 Super User Posted August 13, 2014 I went to a tackle store last weekend that had a Duo pro staffer on hand. We talked about the Spinbaits and I got to check out the Spinbait 90 and the new deep diver (G87 20A). He basically told me the same thing, without really clear water the Spinbait isn't a good option. Quote
JeziHogg Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 I use a TBC610MLXF paired with a Aldebaran BFS (With a honey comb spool) with 6lb Tatsu and these things launch a mile. That being said, if you don't have clear water - chances are it won't work. But these things SLAY small mouth up here in the Great white north. The ghost gill simulates perch really well. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 13, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 13, 2014 They do cast a mile, and like others said clear water and light line are an absolute must. They sink very quickly and are pretty heavy for their small size (3/8oz). I keep forgetting to give them a real thorough test but when they first hit the stores this winter I tested them and had good results (yes that's snow on the rocks in these pictures). Quote
Super User Munkin Posted August 13, 2014 Super User Posted August 13, 2014 I bought two of them to try this year because of all the clear water in the summer. This year the water has been at least stained every time I fished from rain. Maybe this fall I will get a chance to actually use them? Allen Quote
