5fishlimit Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 X2 Get a clue.... To me, the easy answer to this question is the "old" zillion in 7.1 gearing, end of story. Can't go wrong with the old Zillion. I've got two of them and they are built like a tank. Added bonus....you can customize the snot of these things, if you're so inclined. Quote
Hogsticker Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Best proven, hmm. Zillion for sure. Say reel on a Chronarch D frame. Core / Excense DC. However, with that said, I'm not sure anyone can argue the Tdz as the proven reel of all proven reels. It was introduced in the late 90s I believe and is still highly sought after. It kinda set the bar imo. Quote
Hogsticker Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Oops. Didn't pay any attention to the gear ratio thing. I'll still take a Tdz. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 i tell you, I know this is going to stir the pot and I am not trying to, but I demoed a Quantum 100 EXO PT 7.3 to 1 and I LOVED that reel! True, I had it for 4 days, but I would trade all my Curado E's and Revo Rocket for those Quantums. Quote

WdyCrankbait Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Out of work now, I quit do to medical reasons (moved back to an area that can handle my condition). I am about ready to sell that Rocket on the Flea Market though. I've found them for $200-$210 though. Quote
thehooligan Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 $200-300 can get you a used or new bfs xg, Core 50/51 or metanium hg/xg if you look hard enough. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Like everyone has said that has been there, there are many great reels at 200 buck's that are everything you are asking, the lew's Tournament Pro, Curado, and Chronarch, Revos, on and on are all reels that sell for less than that much less, Most are solid reels, and most durable, but at the $200.00 mark and especially the $300.00 mark it would be very tough to find a DOG! They are all going to take pretty much everything you can give it and perform to "enth" degree!! I personally would go Lew's Team Gold, if I was wanting lighter weight, Team Pro, I had the Core and think it is as good a reel but sold it when I got the Team Pro, less money and to me everything the Core is, but with about $100.00 savings or more Street price. You need to feel find one that will balance best with the rod you plan on using and whichever you choose, will be very smooth, plenty fast, and last as long as you take care of necessary maintenance! 1 Quote
