Rcoleman556 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I picked up Berkley Havoc soft plastics, The Pit boss and the Craw fatty types. Both seem to be working pretty well, Landed some Largemouths with them. I usually have them Texas rigged, and Skip them off the bottom near weeds for pretty decent luck. Any of you guys use these soft plastics regularly? If so what's your favorite way of using them, and any tips? Thanks. Quote
Dyerbassman Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Pit Boss and Craw Fatty are two of my go-to plastics. I Texas rig them and use them on jigs. Love em! 1 Quote
Grantman83 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I use the pit boss, devil spear, craw fatty and juice worm. They have all caught me fish. The pit boss is my go to Texas rig plastic Quote
WhiteMike1018 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Try the slop craw on a 3/0 hook with a punch skirt and a tungsten weight - make sure its perfection blue fleck Quote
long island basser Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 I like to t/rig the pit boss and when they get beat up, cut off the end and use it as a jig trailer . Also have done well t/rigging the smash tube. I pitch them in cover ( laydowns, lily pads) Quote

Super User Raul Posted August 12, 2014 Super User Posted August 12, 2014 Subwoofers are THE trailer. Quote

Ginosocalbass Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 I use the Juice Worm, 8" black and blue... I catch tons of fish on it Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted August 12, 2014 Super User Posted August 12, 2014 Pit boss is a go to of mine. One of the best pitchin' baits out there. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 12, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 12, 2014 I carry or have fished almost every bait Havoc makes, only one I didn't like was the Devil's Spear. The Pit Boss, Subwoofer, Beat Shad, Juice Worm, Bottom Hopper, Sick Fish, Flat Dawg, Backslide, and now the new Money Maker all have solid spots in my tackle bag. Quote

Try flipping / pitching the Devil Spear with a pegged bullet weight into cover or rig it sideways (cut down slightly) as a jig trailer. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 12, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 12, 2014 Try flipping / pitching the Devil Spear with a pegged bullet weight into cover or rig it sideways (cut down slightly) as a jig trailer. Tried it, even on a private lake where they eat anything they wouldn't touch it. It does make a decent bladed jig trailer, just not good enough to justify carrying them. I could see it being a good swim jig trailer, but I rarely fish as swim jig so again just not worth carrying. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted August 12, 2014 Super User Posted August 12, 2014 I have fished Havoc baits since they came out a few years ago. At first I just sprinkled them in with my "regular" rotation, but now they make up 80% of my soft plastic selection. I don't use every bait they make, but this is what I use: Pit Boss (in all three sizes) Pit Chunk Craw Fatty Slop Craw Grass Pig (in both sizes) Sub woofer Sick Fish (in all three sizes) Bottom Hopper (in both sizes) Backslide Devil Spear (I just like the smaller one) The Jerk And I just got some of the new Money Makers, I have not used them much yet, but they have already put a few good ones in the boat, so they most likely will end up in the rotation. There are also a few I was not wild about, I don't like the full size Devil Spear, or the Rocket Craw. I could be catching fish just fine on the Pit Boss/Craw Fatty/Slop Craw, and switch to one of those baits and haul water........It's probably just me, but..they are not in the rotation at this time. Also, I don't know how they managed to do it, but their senko/stick bait, the Flat Dawg is even more un-durable than a GYCB product. I went through a whole pack just skipping docks and having them fly off the hook............I'll pass on those, at least for dock skipping. 1 Quote

DogmanRich Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Bottom Hopper in the dark red with red flakes,,, I have the craws for jig trailers but the bottom hopper catches the most first cast bass. Quote
CDobber Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Only time I've tried them were as trailers on buzzbaits, Pit Boss and The Jerk, both in black with purple fleck. Done very well with them. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted August 15, 2014 Super User Posted August 15, 2014 The Craw fatty, subwoofer, and bottom hopper are fantastic baits. The beat shad was the biggest P.O.S I've ever used. Quote
annexation Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Big fan of the pit boss here. T-rigged with a small bullet weight gets strikes everywhere I go. Someone suggested tearing the front of them when they get beat up and using them as jig trailers, which I intend to try. Quote
nepabassfishing Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 The Pit Boss works great as a soft plastic trailer on a jig. I saw it on In-Fisherman a few weeks ago and tried it on my lake with solid success. The Pit Boss looks obnoxiously big on the jig but it produces fish. They're also durable. You can catch a decent number without the soft plastic getting torn up. Quote
