newriverfisherman1953 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I am looking for some advise on buying a trail cam. I am not trying to buy the cheapest......I want a good cam at a good price. Any recommendations? Quote
Mccallister25 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I have a wildgame innovations camera. The axe 4. I think it was 70 bucks? Its nothing real special, but its a camera. It takes pretty good pictures. Might look into them, or moultree also makes some good ones at decent price points. Quote
ColdSVT Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 I have a couple moultries that are goin on five years in the woods...still work great and they keep a battery for six months before i gotta change em...cant complain Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted August 14, 2014 Super User Posted August 14, 2014 The only advice I can give you on using these things has nothing to do with the brand, but more to do with disrupting the normal passage of deer in the area. Our middle son bought one last year and bombarded me with pictures on the deer showing up on it. I don't ever think he figured out what he was really seeing on those pictures. The first few included a nice buck taken during daylight. Within a couple of weeks, all the pictures were of does and small spikes moving by at night. By the time opening day got there, he never saw squat. Too many trips into the place to retrieve pictures had spooked the deer. My Advice - Limit your trips to retrieve that chip! 1 Quote
spiggy212 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Lund Explorer I couldn't agree anymore with you. Over checking your cameras does more harm then good. I normally only check my cameras once a month just to try and keep my presence to a minimum so I don't spook deer. I know it is hard not checking them when you get a nice buck on camera, but checking everyday or every week is easily how to bump that buck and other deer off your property. But to answer your question, the Covert MP6 is only a $100, and its easily the best camera in that price point. Plus their customer service is exceptional! Quote
endless Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I have two Wildgame innovations from walmart. One I can't remember, other just the micro infra red. Both was $70. What I do is I have 2 SD cards for each and when the season hit I change out the SD cards on them when leaving out the woods. The micro I bought last year and the other 2 years ago. Both working great still and haven't change batteries yet. Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Thanks for the help!! Quote
crazyjoeclemens Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Ive heard mixed reviews on Wildgame Innovations cameras. I have one and its still running, but im not sure I'd get another. I do have a couple Spypoint cameras that have been in the field for a few seasons, and they're still working well. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 I used passive Infra red in the early 90's and with limited checks on that it really helped me figure one particular Buck.... He was coming down the light duty trail about 8:30 to 9p... I used it for a month... Went back to Solid woodsmenship and never looked back... Learn the area, learn to identify big buck sign... And you will eventually be rewarded, just sayin... Like was said above, be careful... Big Bucks= Superbucks... They are like no other animal! They Will leave the area, leaving you frustrated.. You're eyes and sences are you best friend, not what you were asking , I know, I just thought I would suggest a other than camera ideal. Good luck, Happy Hunting! Quote
zachvu Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 This was a site that helped me a lot when I was on the market for a few! They do unbiased, comprehensive reviews of pretty much every camera out there. I was really surprised how some cameras from a certain company would shine, and others rated so horribly! That being said, I went with the StealthCam and couldn't be happier with it. Amazing trigger times and a good flash, enough so that I usually have quite a few birds flying by when I check my pics! http://www.trailcampro.com/trailcamerareviews.aspx Quote
