Most of my outfits are anywhere from $300 to north of $1000. I use rod jackets, reel covers, etc.. while they are not in use. Either stored on the deck or in the rod storage. It takes me literally 20 seconds or less to add a reel cover and rod glove to them after I finish so it has become a habit to do so. I feel this helps prevent unwanted boat rash on the both the rod and reel for both my personal benefit and also if I would choose to sell it at some point.

Now if I was fishing out of a canoe or kayak or even walking through a bunch of rocks to fish somewhere I would probably travel with some of my lower end gear think of attaching those rod "floaters" to my outfits should the canoe/kayak tip. I don't buy anything to sit on a shelf. Everything gets used but treated with care.

I treated myself to a $700 combo this year and justified it (to myself) because I would use this rod every time I fish.  And I have with no regrets!!  Enjoy that sweet combo Hootie!!!!!!!!

It will be in the boat from now on. Not using it cannot be an option.

Hey Hootie - just a data point. I was fishing an NRX today (from the bank) and got caught in the front end of a thunderstorm.  The NRX didn't melt - imagine that... ;)

The most expensive reels I own are Cores I got on sale in 2013. I'm not so much fearfull or nervous about using them, but I sure handle them with 'kid-gloves', especially when fishing from shore.

Like other members here I've got college tuition looming and want to get my house paid off before I reach my late 50's, so I try to keep the high-end tackle monkey at an arm's reach.

I'm about to spend a lot of money on new rods and reels. New Steez baitcasters and a new '14 Stella. NRX and Megabass rods. I'm sure I'm gonna be extra careful as I am with everything, but I'm more concerned with catching fish and enjoying the products.

im not concerned, scrathes and nicks just add character. I don't like scratching a Core 50mg right out of the box from droping it on cement though.

Most all of my 40 years of fishing have been primarily fly fishing.  Really good fly rods and reels cost really big dollars.  But they cast and feel so good, they get used the most.

I feel the same about the bass fishing gear I'm slowly acquiring.  I try to buy the best tools for the job at hand.  And once I get them, it makes doing the job more enjoyable!

Use the living daylights out of that combo, Hootie!

Tight lines,

Bob

I know the value of a dollar so I'm very careful with my stuff. Funny thing is I treat them all the same regardless of price.

Not funny.  Might not feel as sick losing a $30 reel as a $200 reel, but sick is sick.  I'm like you.  all my gear gets treated the same................carefully.

I buy it to use it.  I have a $700 setup (Daiwa PX-R & Loomis GL2), and it is used more than any of the other setups I have.

It just brings the biggest smile to my face!  :happy-138:
