Boomer_bassin Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 So I went along with my wife to the world's longest yard sale on Hwy 127 today. I kept my eyes open for fishing items and though I saw many only one got me to part with some money. It's a 5 and 1/2 ft Fenwick Yellow Jacket casting rod with a Daiwa Millionaire 3h Hi-speed round baitcaster. It just called to me, unfortunately the rod specifics (model #, line and lure ratings) has rubbed off over the years. Anyone know anything about these rods? I didn't figure $12 was too much to pay because I like how it looks and the reel seems to function quite well. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 10, 2014 Super User Posted August 10, 2014 Don't know about that particular model but, every rod on my deck is a Fenwick Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted August 10, 2014 Super User Posted August 10, 2014 Is this it? http://www.toylure.com/shop/img/R-494-6.jpg Reading stuff online...These rods were only produced for a year and are very rare. They sell on ebay for hundreds of dollars. You could probably sell it for 100 at least. Quote

Boomer_bassin Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Forgive the poor quality but here is a quick picture of the combo Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Wow, I think you scored big, apparently it is very rare. I read that someone sold a mint condition one for 800. Without the specs, it probably wouldnt be worth close to that much, but you could probably get a good amount for it, that is if you decide to sell it, looks pretty fun to fish with. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 10, 2014 Super User Posted August 10, 2014 In what little info I could find on this, as others have stated it's seems like a rare rod and that you definately scored. It looks like it was one that was made by hand the old school way, with no machining what so ever but I could be wrong (just a guess). I would contact Fenwick directly. They have great service and nice "fishing" people working for them. Quote
Boomer_bassin Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Hmmm.... decisions decisions lol Quote

Took it out in the yard today and it felt good to cast with, not so sure about the Millionaire reel but that is mainly because Im not sure on the brakes. I have never used an older baitcaster and there are no markings to tell me where the set point is and also the brake dial will spin without hitting a stopping point. Im sure I will figure it out, to me its just cool using something "old" that I have never used before Quote
Boomer_bassin Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 Decided to try to sell the Yellow Jacket, what do you folks think I should ask for it? Fenwick was unable to help me with info unfortunately. Quote
Boomer_bassin Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 Just an update.... I put the rod up for sale and sold it for $175 1 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted August 20, 2014 Super User Posted August 20, 2014 Did you have it on ebay? I think I saw it yesterday Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 Made a nice profit! Going to reinvest it into other gear? Quote
Boomer_bassin Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 Sure am just haven't decided what yet lol Quote
