William Snee Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I've been using Stren monofilament for years. I recently bought 2 Zebco 33 reels and put 10 lb. Stren monofilament on them. As I was looking at the various types of line that are available theses days, I came across Stren Flurocarbon line. What is the difference between monofilament and fluorocarbon line? Flurocarbon is a little more than monofilament. Is it worth the extra money and go with Flurocarbon? Any advice is appreciated. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 Monofilament is great for treble hook lures. For single hooks fluorocarbom, braid or a combination (fluoro leader) might be a better choice. For an "all-around" line I would recommend Yo-Zuri Hybrid. http://yo-zuri.com/Products/Yo-Zuri_Fishing_Line/details/Yo-Zuri_Hybrid.html Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 I don't think I would leap onto FC, with the 33's I would stick with a softer line.. Myself... Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 It's worth the extra in certain applications. I wouldn't use it in a zebco 33 though. The stiffness may prevent it from properly catching the pin and it won't sit tightly on the spool. Quote
fishguy613 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 fluoro, mono or braid can be used fine with treble hook lures especially with the right setup. fluoro is dense and it will sink, this helps when trying to impart action into certain baits. You really get what you pay for with the stuff though Quote
Gator Jeaux Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I sort of plan on using a monofilament line with a fluorocarbon leader for all of my rigs. Good or bad idea? It should be noted that as for now, I only bank fish. I'd probably get a braided line for when I get a friend who has a boat and we're fishing in thick brush. Quote
