OntarioFishingGuy Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I am thinking about purchasing a chronarch 51e to use for small Texas rigs, senkos and finesse jigs. It will be going on a 6'8" Legend Tournament. I already own a Chronarch ci4+, so do you guys think that it would be better suited for these techniques. If you have any suggestions of some better 'finesse' baitcasters for around 200-220, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Ontario, I dont have a 51E Chronarch, but I do have a Curado 50E. That is pretty much exclusively what I use my 50E for, I saw on TW's website you can Demo the Chronarch 51E. Maybe, try it out first to be sure first. But, as a suggestion, have you looked at a 13 ***? That is a little higher than the price range mentioned, but again as a suggestion. Good luck, Wdy Quote

Cgrinder Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 CH51E is the best you're going to do for a $200 "finesse" reel. I have one and recommend it. It's going to look like hell on the bright blue LTB though. Quote

5dollarsplash Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 My curado 50e on my 6'8"mlxf LTB is my favorite setup. I do everything your looking to do with it and haven't considered other reels since. I'm sure there are better finesse baitcasters but not at 200 or less imo. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 There's a better "finesse" baitcaster, a Daiwa Sol, there are new ones at e-bay for around 140. Quote

Actually they don't look bad at all, that's the 6'8/chronarch You can't go wrong with the 51e platform, I use them for everything, including what you're looking to do 1 Quote

War Eagle 44 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 There's a better "finesse" baitcaster, a Daiwa Sol, there are new ones at e-bay for around 140. Well just based on actual facts this statement is 100% BS. The spool in the CH 50 is lighter than the spool in the Sol and as we all know spool weight plays a big part in "finesse" fishing with a baitcaster. Therefore the Sol actually isn't a better finesse reel than the CH 50. The CH 50 has more total drag pressure while also making smoother more consistent pressure. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 I hated my Sol... Most inconsistent reel I ever owned.... I like my 50&51's real well.. Quote

DelcoSol Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I have a 50e on a 6'8" loomis and its one of my favorite combos. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 Ive got a 51e in the 68mxf LTB i use for jerkbaits and topwater. Great combo. I like the white on blue Quote
thehooligan Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Best finesse reel for the money. And if you want to throw even lighter baits in the future you can always put in an avail spool in... Quote
T-Rick Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I just put the 51E on a TBC71MF and I really like the look of the white reel on the blue rod. I have not used the combo enough to comment on the performance but I did want to support the other posts which addressed visual appearance. T-Rick Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 The 50E is about as good as you'll find for finesse baitcasting without really opening your wallet. That said, what you're throwing is on the lighter end but shouldn't require a true "finesse" reel. Any good casting reel matched with the right rod should serve your purpose. Quote

Very comfortable reel. Quote
bass1980 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 I'll vouch for the 50 series. Example I don't crank a lot so I needed an all around crank rod to throw light cranks to deep divers within a certain limit. So I ended up with a GLoomis GL2 7' MH. It was hard to cast 1.5 kvd's with my Daiwa T3 and Chronarch ci4+ and those two are excellent reels. Just loaded up weird and I would be either not casting far enough or on the verge of back lash. Then one day I switched my crank setup to my 51e. Wow is all I can say. I can cast 1.5 3/8oz cranks easily and even shad rap #5! I am so impressed with this reel! Does not lack power too like my Steez and T3 so even cranking DT10's I'm fine with it. DT16's I can feel that I need a true low ratio crank reel but it's doable as I don't crank deep much. Then I have another setup as my 3/8-1/2oz jig. I paired my *** *** 7'3 Heavy with my 51e. Originally I thought the 51e was going to not be strong enough for jig fishing in weeds but it is. The guts of this reel is not a true finesse reel so it has the power but also has the nice size spool so it can cast 1/4oz lures easily. I'm thinking of selling a new in box curado and getting another chronarch 51e for 1oz punching. IMO the Shimano Curado/Chronarch 50 series is the most versatile reel out there except for line capacity. I know in the south people use 15-20lb mono/flouro so this doesn't help the sale of the 50 series but up north in weeds we use a lot of braided lines so we can get more line capacity with smaller diameter braided line. If they ever come out with a Curado I 50 series I am switching almost all of my reels to this but according to sources they are not...bummer. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 I know in the south people use 15-20lb mono/flouro You wouldn't believe the times I've tried to actually physically show guys my Curado 51E spooled with 20 to 30# braid and leader of anywhere between 10, 15, or even sometimes 20# fluoro in action and they won't even take time to watch. I don't mean I'm trying to get them to watch me fish for 30 minutes, I'm simply talking about making a few casts or pitches at the ramp just so they can see that a properly tied leader connection knot doesn't interfere with fishing like they think it does. I can definitely attest to the bias that southerners have toward smaller reels and using braid with a leader. I'm not sure why or where it comes from though? I've grown up in AL my whole life and I wasn't the least bit hesitant to try it and I haven't looked back since, I love it. It's the only way I fish spinning tackle anymore. I'm not even sure people really realize just hoe bad it really is down here, now I realize not everyone is this way but there is still a good number of guy thinking this way, I still see plenty of guys using Abu Ambassadeur 5500 & 6500's on their flipping sticks! I'm not joking, filled to the top with mono or fluoro. I'm puzzled as to why they feel they would ever need this much line but they do. Quote
