Super User tcbass Posted August 8, 2014 Super User Posted August 8, 2014 I have new Siebert's swim jigs and am planning to use them this weekend. I have Ragetail Menaces, Craws, Chunks, and Bugs along with Gary Yamamoto swimming Senkos, and Strike King Swim and Shiners. Do you guys shorten these at all to use as swim jig trailers or are some the perfect size? If you have any of the specific trailers I mentioned above what do you do with them? Quote
doyle8218 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Depends on the trailer and where I am using them. Quote
Cgrinder Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Rage Craws fit well if you've left the skirt untrimmed. However I trim my jig skirts so I use Chunks or pop a section or two off the Rage Craw. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I dont shorten the meneces on 3/8 oz.. On your 1/4 I may take just a little off if it didnt work well at full length. When I fish the Rage craw 99% of the time I take 1- 2 nubs off the tail. Like pictured in my avatar. Quote

Super User iceintheveins Posted August 8, 2014 Super User Posted August 8, 2014 I often use the Mr. Twister Split Double Trail as my swimjig trailer, and I do usually trim off 1/4" to 1/2" for a more compact presentation. Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 If I want a big profile, I'll trim the skirt to the back of the hook bend and use a full size trailer. If I want a compact one, I'll trim the trailer so the action tails stick out just past the skirt. If I want to go small, but still use a heavy jig, I'll trim both the skirt and trailers as mentioned. TorqueConverter Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I bite the head off of a Space Monkey and pair it to a KVD swim jig. The Space Monkey is crazy durable and has just as much action as any rage craw or chunk. Quote

Super User iabass8 Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 For 1/4 swim jigs i usually have the skirt trimmed just under the hook so the skirt pops and flares more if im popping the jig. On a paddle tail trailer(swim senko/grasspig), i cut it right below the gills and thread it on. Quote
