Anyone going tomorrow (8/7/14) for the opening? It's suppose to be very busy so expect heavy traffic.  I imagine there must be some good deals the opening week.

Oh, and I think I read somewhere that Joe Teti (Cast member from Dual Survival on Discovery Channel) will be there this weekend.

I need to make it out there eventually to go check it out.

I'll probably wait a month or three until all the excitement wears off.     Maybe I'll have a couple more gift cards to use when I do go.   Maybe I'll actually need something also.   lol

Drove to the new Cabela's in Buffalo, Tuesday afternoon with my wife to check it out. The grand opening is on Thursday; however,Tuesday was a special invitation day for those who made catalog purchases or had a credit card. Not all that special of an invitation; as there were a few hundred people there, which was expected.

The initial impression was that the store was much smaller than anticipated; having visited a Cabela's store near Phoenix,AZ several years ago which had much better animal and fish displays and was considerably larger with more merchandise. I would compare this store to the Bass Pro store near Auburn, although that BPS store seemed a little bigger with more of a fishing selection.

The prices at Cabela's for the most part were at retail, which I consider to be inflated, and there may have been a few specially priced items, but not many.

I was able to test out an Excalibur Matrix crossbow and my wife purchased a few items of outdoor clothing, so the trip was somewhat worthwhile, in addition to finding out what the store was all about.

The store was well staffed, which was no surprise for a new store and some of the staff were very knowledgeable, but most were just helpful and friendly.

I don't think Dick's Sporting Goods will be affected much in the long run by this competition, as DSG seems to periodically run sales on some of the fishing, hunting and clothing merchandise; and it's larger stores, such as the one in Henrietta has a good fishing selection.

It was good to make the trip this one time from Rochester to check out the Cabela's store; however, I'm not sure that I would venture to that store unless there was something else that I needed to go to Buffalo for.

I had the day off due to the rain last night, so a buddy of mine and I went there this morning. It's the first Cabela's I have ever been in, but he has been to a couple. My impressions:

Much smaller than I anticipated, the BPS in Auburn is bigger. It's not much bigger than the local Gander Mtn. stores.

They did have more rods, and reels than I have ever seen in one place at one time, so that's a plus. The selection of St Croix rods was impressive.

Lots of tackle/baits, but not as bass centric as obviously BPS. My buddy said the walleye, muskie, and trout selections were real good, and we both agreed the bass and panfish stuff were a little underwhelming.

The had plenty of ammo, even .22LR, but the firearms selection was very anemic.

Boating supplies/toys was on par with BPS, and much better than Gander Mtn.

Prices were a little high....along the same lines as BPS, but then again, it's hard to beat TW and Wal-mart in that department.

I'll be back, it's not all that far from me, and there is plenty of the store I didn't see, as I just checked out the fishing, boating, ammo, and firearms areas.

I checked it out today with my buddy and it was still a mad house.  I pretty much agree with everything ww2farmer said except in my opinion I think the fishing area of the store was pretty unorganized.  The products didn't really follow any particular order, especially for the terminal tackle and hooks.  The soft plastics baits for bass was a big let down too.  I was hoping for a better variety by some of the brands, I even think Gander Mountain has them beat since they've revamped the one location in my area.  Nice selection of hard baits, but I don't buy to many of them.

Like you said ww2farmer, online sites like TW are the way to go now, their prices are better and the selection is all there. Plus theres no need to drive to get it and its free shipping.  All in all, I might go back but not anytime soon.
