Cheeseman, there is a ton of material on the internet on crankbait making, quite a bit is right here on BR so read all you can. Then its time for some trial and error, take apart some baits and see how they are made, try modifing some baits with different weights and line tie positions. Too many guys get caught up on fancy paint and finishes before they learn what makes a bait work properly. You can take a plain peice of unfinished wood that is assembled and runs properly and outfish a whole lot of baits with great finish but yet won't run as they should. You will make some junk but with each mistake you learn what works and what does not. Making crankbaits is a great hobby, addictive, but great.

Cheesman, there are several but the three I use most are Stamina, Jann's Netcraft and  Barlows. All of these companys have a free catalog also. Except for split-rings, hooks and a few screw eyes I make most of my own hardware and lips.
