Super User bigbill Posted August 5, 2014 Super User Posted August 5, 2014 First I want to say hello. I been reading and trying to stay on top of the new bait offering weTher there the same, same or new and different. I found these new glide baits that's sweeping the west coast. I see these on eBay and priced between $13/$100? I stand corrected the Roman big glide lure is $424 your kidding me right? The presentation is slow so it glides in the water. What do you guys think of them? Ya or na? Bigbill Is the glide a new presentation that can be done with any slow sinking swim bait? I'm probably a late comer to this so please fill me in. Quote
einscodek Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Its just PR for a suspending jerkbait if you want a great jerkbait that works and you want to pay alot of money.. no more than $30 will get you a megabass 110 SP Quote

A glide bait and a jerkbait are nowhere near the same category. Bill, you'll find that the bigger/heavier baits do more of the actual "gliding" action. The smaller baits in that category do not carry the momentum required to get a wide glide. The River 2 Sea S-waver in 168 and 200 is a decent bait at their respective price points. Savage Gear is coming out with a bigger glide later this year. It's around 8". When you start talking Deps, Roman Made, Hinkle, etc, you're going to get into paying some serious money for a single bait. I'm a big fan of the Deps 250. It's about the most entertaining bait to fish that I can think of. I don't know of another bait that can entice and reveal the number of big fish it has for me. Even if they don't eat it, knowing they are in the area is a big confidence boost. 1 Quote
J BASS Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Good stuff and news to me so I am a goggling next Quote
J BASS Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 In Michigan we have a thing called a Pike so a little out of my price range to buy these baits I was a looking at on a popular tackle site and the prices. That also got me going about some that have way too much money and buy wins on the tournament tours...Just my 2 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted August 5, 2014 Super User Posted August 5, 2014 It is a swimbait, not a glorified swimbait. I have a couple gliders. One isn't a production model, the other is the Savage Gear bait. Speed is on the money, a bigger bait has better gliding action. The main difference I see as well, is that they typically don't have as dramatic a swimming action on a straight retrieve. It's more like a rolling action. Basically, a different, more specific bait. Calling "glorified" would be like calling a suspending crank bait a glorified jerk bait. As people gain success with bigger baits, they quickly have a desire to fine tune the presentation. This type of bait fits that description. Is it better? No. Maybe. Yes? Depends on whether you use them and get bit. I like them. Forces me to slow down. Quote
J BASS Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 What does Nate Wellman have to do with glide baits? Not sure what you mean as I have never heard the name... If you are referring to my comment about money winning tournaments? It was not driven at any one person. It was driven however to the price of some of these baits and that the average guy could not afford trying to make it at the pro level or any level or against the fish. It was also driven to my old tournament days and the guys that could beat any pro in the country but they just did not have the money to take the leap. Sorry I will stop... Quote

J BASS Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Your point? double%20musky%20013a.jpg We get bit off a lot and I never use a wire leader unless a wire leader is the norm with this bait...Never used a wire leader bass fishing. I make a modest living as a engineer but I cannot afford a hundred to 400 hundred dollar bait...I do have 50 dollar top water bait but rarely ever ;loose one to a pike.... Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 5, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 5, 2014 I just ordered a smaller sized cheaper one. For me to fish anything over $15 cost it's braid and a steel leader. At $424 for the large monster Roman glide bait it's absurd. Time to get some hobby shop balsa wood and practice with my air brush setup. The gliders appear to have wider flat bottoms. Quote
Primus Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Any of you guys use the 9" ABT Suicide Glide ? Not quite as pricey and easier to get. Looking for a little feedback before I drop some coin on it . Quote

Coherence Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Received a River2Sea S-Waver (as someone mentioned earlier) in one of my Mystery Tackle Boxes, seems like a decent bait for the price point between 12-20 bucks - Used it a few times, no luck with bass so far but I've gotten some decent chain pickerel on it. War Eagle 44 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Get this.......You're welcome http://www.savagegear-usa.com/product/view/lures/specialty-lures/glide-swimmer-1 I picked up two of these at the Classic Expo back in Feb. and in my opinion they aren't nearly as well made as the R2S S-Waver. The R2S also has a much more fluid "swim" and better finished paint. About the only weak point I've found in the S-Waver for the money is their stock hardware. It may appear robust but it isn't. Or at least in the case of the hooks, they are strong but they're strong to the point that they don't bend but break. As far as the split rings go I just automatically switch them out because of a previous bad experience with stock R2S rings on a Whopper Plopper. Other than those minor details, for their price, the S-Wavers are a solid buy in my opinion. I will add though that the 200 is a big bait for guys not accustom to throwing swimbaits, it may not sound or look like it online or in pictures but in person and out on the water it is. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 6, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 6, 2014 I fish the 168 S Waver fairly often and have had good success with them. Haven't tried any of the bigger glides yet but I'm getting there. Kind of have to slowly build stock with these baits. Money buying fish and tournaments wins is one of the most absurd things I've ever heard. Nice gear helps catch fish sure, but if you don't know how to use it then it isn't going to do a bit of good. Give Joe Smo off the street who has never fished in his life the nicest, most expensive rod/reel/line/bait out there and I'd still bet my boat on KVD whipping him with an ugly stick, cheap reel, and a plastic worm out of a bargain bin at Wal-Mart. 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 6, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 6, 2014 So the new bait is taking the west coast by storm is the new glide bait? Glide lure Gliding presentation? Have you glided yet? New Buzz words for the fishing websters dictionary? Who would of thunk it? Quote
