poolecw Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Whats the current reputation on Evinrude ETECs? I bought a 50hp ETEC back in 2003 but sold the boat after about 75 hours. Doing my research before buying that motor, I felt that the ETEC was about as good as it could get, but like I said, that was 11 years ago and they were relatively new to the market. From a durability and performance standpoint, how do they compete against comprable models from other manufacturers? I've been searching boat classifieds for a few weeks now and I've seen more than a couple low hour ETECs that have had powerheads and/or fuel injectors replaced.I'm not looking for a Ford vs Chevy debate.... Super User Sam Posted August 5, 2014 Super User Posted August 5, 2014 Experience by the one guy in my bass club that has an Evinrude ETEC and from other bass fishermen: STAY AWAY FROM EVINRUDE. Go with Mercury or Yamaha, depending on where the repair shop is located in your area. And find out if your repair shop has anyone with a certified motor certification for your brand. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 6, 2014 Super User Posted August 6, 2014 Evinrude just introduced a gen 2 Etec Quote

tstone Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I know quite a few people running them with zero issues. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 My cousin runs one and he has had 0 issues. Runs a Etec 225 HO and has ran it a lot. Not one single problem. Quote
Logan S Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I have a 2013 200HP model on my boat. Zero issues and great performance. Great motor, I know a few others with ETECs and they share the same feelings about them. Quote
