Good morning!

I couldn't find any threads on these reels, so I was wondering if anybody here had any experience with the GSX reels from Gander Mountain, more specifically the GSX elite (since it's on sale right now).  I'm looking for a new froggin reel and would like to find a bargain.  I'm not in a huge rush to find one, and my first pick right now is the Citica G7, but I am open to other options as well, especially if the price tag looks appealing and the quality is there.

Just looked up that reel on the web and it looks great.  Falls into that store brand $129.00 area and being on sale for $80 is def a great deal especially being 6.0ozs.  I may have to pick one up and give it a try, Swap it out on my flipping stick and move that reel to the *** Green I want for frog fishing.....see I've come to terms with my bait monkey and just stop arguing with him.

I thought it looked pretty good too, but the citica g6 is also on sale for $80...I know there's some good reels that can be had for $80 when sales and discounts are around.

Light weight reels are nice if the weight savings are achieved in an appropriate manner. That's not generally the case with lower end reels. The BPS PQ is about the only store brand I readily recommend. The Citica is a work horse and proven, but if you're inclined and can afford to gamble you might be pleasantly surprised.

Up to the point when I quit working there, the Gander reels were just badged Quantums. I don't know if that's true still but I doubt you would have any issues.

For the same price, I probably wouldn't chance it and I would buy the Citica.

If you're a right hander, you may also look into the new Pflueger casting reels, the 99$ one. They're new ones are capable of the 20# drag rating like the Revos, which would make it a big contender to me for an inexpensive frog reel. Haven't heard anything bad about them yet, and I've been told they can cast pretty light baits rather well.

I don't know if you want to spend $100, but Dick's in the area has Curado G's for $99.97. It's good to have options.

I've owned a few Shimano's and only 1 hasn't failed me yet.  So I steer away from them. 4 out of 5 reels down = no faith for me. I'll gamble on the $80 GSX and if it is a badged Quantum, I'll make sure I get 2.  Just my opinion though.

I bought 2 GSX reels last year, had problems with both. One is actually on its way back right now.

I have that same reel. It is a 7.3:1. I love mine.

They also have the GSX Tournament Pro Low-Profile Casting Reel. Reg price 129.99 for 49.99.

I dont know if quantum makes some of their reels.but i know some are made by pfleuger. The guide series reels are rebadged pfleugers and have a magnetic braking system and not the acs like on quantums. The guide series reel i had was decent for the price i gave but ive never tried any of their higher end ones. Some of their rods are made by *** . My partner has a gsx elite rod made by 13 and it just as sensitive if not more so than my *** black
