DT6 4 days Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 I'm in the market for a new scale..looking for one in the 0-35$ range....any suggestions? Quote
ABW Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 There was a similar post on here before... I think that someone talked about using a luggage scale that can be found on e bay for like $10. I might get one just to see how it works, Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 2, 2014 Super User Posted August 2, 2014 http://www.basspro.com/Rapala-Tube-Scales/product/10202962/ Calibrate by putting free weight in a plastic grocery bag. Weight 2lbs, 5 lbs, 10 lbs and 15 lbs. Make adjustments as needed , you will be good to go! Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted August 2, 2014 Super User Posted August 2, 2014 Have a digital Rapala scale. (25lbs) Haven't had any issues with it and have used it since Dec. Still on the same battery as well. Think it might have been $29.99 Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted August 2, 2014 Super User Posted August 2, 2014 I use Rapala digital electronic scales. I've had five of them - four "50lb Mini Digital" and one "50lb Sportsman's Digital." All have been accurate to within two ounces at the 10-pound weight range. The only problem I've had has nothing to do with accuracy - it's had to do with the on/off switch getting dodgy then failing on one of the Mini Digital models. So, I've tossed one of the five but still have four in service (1 in the boat, 1 in the bank-fishing pack, 1 in the car, 1 as a spare in the house). Great service for around $20. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 3, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 3, 2014 The Rapala Mini Digital is a great little scale for $20 and seems to be very accurate. Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted August 3, 2014 Super User Posted August 3, 2014 I don't think that those two words go together when the subject is scales. You can get a cheap scale. You can get a reliable scale. Good luck getting a cheap, reliable scale. I'm not a big fan of scales. They take all the mystery out of it and make it harder to lie with a straight face. That being said, I own a small hand held Quarrow model. It is accurate enough, give or take and I got it to make comparisons easier should I ever be in a position where I had to cull fish. That being said, I've never been in a position where I had to make quick culling decisions during a tournament. Maybe, if I hadn't bought the tool I would have needed it - who's to say? Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 You can have cheap and reliable and easy to use, as well. I have used these for 3 years. I have tested them with known weights. MIght have to put on a larger hook or clip. http://www.ebay.com/itm/20g-40Kg-Pocket-Digital-Scale-Electronic-Hanging-Luggage-Balance-Weight-/171155983110?pt=US_Pocket_Digital_Scales&hash=item27d9b10b06 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted August 5, 2014 Super User Posted August 5, 2014 I have two scales. A $20 Berkley digital hand held, and a $300 Equalizer table top tournament scale that I use at weigh-in's. Both weigh fish exactly the same. For example, my biggest fish that I weighed for lunker this weekend in a tournament I fished, weighed 5lbs 5oz. on the Berkley scale, and at the end of the day, on this clubs tournament scale, which is the same as mine, it weighed 5.29lbs....................good enough for me. I generally find people who "think" their handheld scales are "way off", don't really have a clue, and think 3lbers are 6 in the first place. 2 Quote
desmobob Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I bought one of the inexpensive Berkley scales at one of the 'Mart stores and it is accurate (I tested it) and works very well. I think I paid $19 and change for it. If I lost it I'd buy another one immediately. Years ago, I spent more than that on a high-end spring scale and I don't really like it.... Tight lines, Bob Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted August 16, 2014 Super User Posted August 16, 2014 Digital scales all have two weaknesses, moisture & weak batteries. Best to keep them dry as possible & change out the battery yearly. Spring scales only act up under extreme wet & cold, like icing. The repala scales are pretty good. The Accu Cull Digital Scale - $34.99 is really good & locks on the weight. 2 Quote
