Jollygreens Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 I am new to the South and Bass fishing. Now that I am hooked, I want a small bass boat. Momma and my daughter want a ski type (runabout) boat. Question is... Can I still be successful bass fishing from this type of boat? What advice do you have? Remember, happy wife, happy life... Quote
Code54 Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Would they like a pontoon? With the right setup they can easily pull a tube or skier and it gives them lounging room. A few fishing seats out on the front wouldn't even make a dent in the overall space. Just throwing it out there..... We are looking to get one in the future as it is a good "family" boat that still allows for a good fishing platform. Quote

I think that would be a good option so far. Do you think I could get into good spots with a pontoon? Quote

Do you think I could get into good spots with a pontoon? How about a float boat? Benefits of a pontoon in a more manueverable platform. Quote
Jollygreens Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 I have no idea what a float boat is? I am going to have to research that. I saw some guys fishing using a ski and fish type boat. Just wondering if anyone else is on here and how they like it. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 2, 2014 Super User Posted August 2, 2014 Some fish and skis are more "fish" and some are more "ski" If you're spending the majority of time fishing then you should look at one geared more towards fishing and vice versa. The Ranger Reatta I mentioned earlier is a fishnski. Most manufacturers offer this type of boat in their lineup. Quote
Code54 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I never had any issues on Pontoons - now in super heavy cover (like where there are ton of trees sticking up) it can be harder to get between them just due to the width but you can always skirt the outside and throw into the area. The nice thing is you can have an on board bathroom/changing room (pop up from the rear seat area - great for Kids) and I love the idea of the grill mounted off the rail - nice to have a hotdog or something while you are tooling around. Many of the newer ones come with a trolling motor and fish finders preinstalled (also live wells and rod racks) Good luck on your search Quote
