Super User Montanaro Posted July 31, 2014 Super User Posted July 31, 2014 Finally found a spool of 65 pound and spooled it up and used it this evening. There isn't much info online about this line but wanted to see what seaguar could come up with. I've only ever used Powerpro and briefly sunline fx2 and smackdown is smoother and quieter than both of those. Casts effortlessly and resists digging in. 65# PP would always dig in even after a small bass...no such issue with smackdown. Seems to be strong but haven't hauled any large bass out of grass or trees yet. Some color rubbed off onto my finger as I spooled...but not even close to the powdering I received from spooling FX2. Sure it is expensive and a pain to find...but braid can lasts you years...might as well spend a few more bucks on a quality line Quote
PAGreg Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I love my smackdown. I have it in 30#,40#, and 65#. Quote
Drewski73 Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Ive got 65lb on 2 reels and after 4 months it is so soft and supple. Really great line. Well worth the money for my needs. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted August 1, 2014 Super User Posted August 1, 2014 I truly love the new Smackdown. All of my spinning rods have been converted to Smackdown. I may try it on my flippin' stick at some point but the PowerPro on there is only a year old and I don't want to waste it. Quote
5fishlimit Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I've been using the 40# on my PXL-R, and it has been phenomenal. It's as limp as a wet noodle. I'll be switching all my braid to Smackdown by next year. Quote
jamesholton Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Totally agree with all the above. Smackdown is freakin awesome! i LOVE how quiet it is through the guides! 1 Quote
AMAC Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Smackdown is great! The reason it is so smooth is bc it is an 8 strand braid which makes it much quiter and smoother. I like it especially for casting techniques. I like the kanzen for flipping. Quote
5fishlimit Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 I thought I would revisit this topic since I've had an entire season to use the Smackdown and have a much better & informed opinion on the product. Pros: It is very smooth compared to even other 8 carrier braids I've used. The line diameter is slimmer compared to other similar # test of competitors braids I've used. If noise is an issue for you then Smackdown is a great choice as it seemed so much quieter thank others I have used in the past. Very supple and has great line management. I've found that even with the thinner diameter it doesn't have the "digging in" issue that others have. Cons: Not the most shock resistant. On one occasion I had my spool loosened up way to much & created the start of a glorious birdsnest. As everything wound around itself and the cast came to a screeching halt the line snapped - rather easily. Though it was easy to untangle the mess I had created I did feel that a similar situation with perhaps Power Pro would not have snapped as easily. Upfront cost: It's pricey, but at the end of the day with braid being able to be used for several years it almost becomes a non-issue. Abrasion resistance. With the thinner diameter to # test of the line I would definitely recommend using a leader if fishing around docks and rocks. To sum up my feelings. The pros far outweigh the cons for Smackdown & the way I fish. Others may have a different experience, but moving forward I will be using only this product for my choice of braided line. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted November 18, 2014 Super User Posted November 18, 2014 I spooled up one of my Chronarch ci4's with some of this stuff towards the end of this season (40 lb test). I was very impressed, It far outperforms my beloved 832. Now to decide if I bite the bullet and buy enough to spool up my other half a dozen baitcasters with it... Quote
