Jraut98 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I've been fishing for striped bass near a discharge and caught a couple but how do you guys think I could catch more? I've caught them on poppers and live lining whit perch. Anyone know any lures to get the bigger ones to bite there's a lot of smaller ones? They nip on top the water all the time but miss the popper a lot Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 31, 2014 Super User Posted July 31, 2014 Don't know a thing about freshwater stripers, but I have caught many saltwater ones. Surgical tubes have always produced good stripers, whether trolled or casted, single or umbrella rig. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 31, 2014 Super User Posted July 31, 2014 Try large paddle tailed soft swimbaits. Especially the larger 5 1/2" size, like the SK Shadalicious. Rig it on a weighted swimbait hook. Quote
quanjig Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 A lot of time the bigger fish are under the smaller ones being lazy waiting for the small guys to injure a bait that falls down to them. I used to smash them on the storm 4" swimbaits. Count it down thru the small top water feeders and see if that gets you a better quality striper!! Quote
timsford Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Swimbaits, lipless cranks, jerkbaits, and bucktail jigs are my most productive striper baits. Underspins like the sworming hornet and a fluke trailer work great when they are suspended Quote
