My friend was looking for a low priced baitcasting reel and ordered a Bass Prp Tourney Special baitcaster.

He was wondering if it was a good reel for the price range he's looking at which is about $50. This reel was $49.

Yes it's a pretty good reel. I tryed one it's smooth casting, but the drag isn't the best. But for $49 is say yes.!

I've never used it, but I can say that you could step it up to the pro-qualifier for just about the same price if you wait for a sale.

Pro qualifier would have been my first choice, I love all mine and they get abused.

havent used one but i have 2 of the bionic plus baitcasters which is essentially a tourney special with 1 more bearing.  they both use the smart cast system which works fairly well.  i like mine but im still upgrading to pro qualifiers.  i think the extra money is justified especially since pro qualifiers go on sale quite often.

My dad has a few of them and I wouldn't say they're great, but for the money they aren't bad.

The PQ and maybe the Gander Mtn branded Daiwa's are about the only re-branded/private label reels I'd bother with. The PQ is just too good of a deal on sale to gamble on anything else. I have an older Extreme that serve well as a back up, but I have the luxury of doing repairs and upgrades at myself on a whim.

For the price it's a good reel, but the PQ is worth every bit of 100 bucks, and especially when it's on sale for 70. I have four and they rock.

I have been using a tourney special and its great. I turn off all the cast control crap and just use the brake. Its been great for me so far, and it has a 1 year warantee.
