Super User tcbass Posted July 31, 2014 Super User Posted July 31, 2014 My friend was looking for a low priced baitcasting reel and ordered a Bass Prp Tourney Special baitcaster. He was wondering if it was a good reel for the price range he's looking at which is about $50. This reel was $49. Quote
bbodkin Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Yes it's a pretty good reel. I tryed one it's smooth casting, but the drag isn't the best. But for $49 is say yes.! Quote
Tony L. Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I've never used it, but I can say that you could step it up to the pro-qualifier for just about the same price if you wait for a sale. Quote
Bank4Bass Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Pro qualifier would have been my first choice, I love all mine and they get abused. Quote
slainempire Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 havent used one but i have 2 of the bionic plus baitcasters which is essentially a tourney special with 1 more bearing. they both use the smart cast system which works fairly well. i like mine but im still upgrading to pro qualifiers. i think the extra money is justified especially since pro qualifiers go on sale quite often. Super User WIGuide Posted July 31, 2014 Super User Posted July 31, 2014 My dad has a few of them and I wouldn't say they're great, but for the money they aren't bad. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 The PQ and maybe the Gander Mtn branded Daiwa's are about the only re-branded/private label reels I'd bother with. The PQ is just too good of a deal on sale to gamble on anything else. I have an older Extreme that serve well as a back up, but I have the luxury of doing repairs and upgrades at myself on a whim. Super User iceintheveins Posted August 1, 2014 Super User Posted August 1, 2014 For the price it's a good reel, but the PQ is worth every bit of 100 bucks, and especially when it's on sale for 70. I have four and they rock. Quote
MassBass Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I have been using a tourney special and its great. I turn off all the cast control crap and just use the brake. Its been great for me so far, and it has a 1 year warantee. Quote
