I am in the market for a new rod that I will dedicate almost entirely to jigs. I was wondering what length, power, and action rod would best suit  jig fishing. Normally I am throwing jigs that range from 3/8oz to 1/2oz. I am normally fishing from shore (not owning a boat and only being 15), but I also fish tournaments that allow me to be on a boat. Thanks Guys! Also My budget is about $150

NOTE: A good amount of my budget comes from a TW giftcard

I really want to get a Powell Endurance 714 as a jig rod. Its a 7'1" heavy fast action rod. You want to get a stout rod for jig fishing to drive the hook. Heard nothing but good things about them for jigs in the 3/8 to around 3/4 oz range. It all depends on on how much you want to spend, the type of cover you're fishing, and what size jigs you want to use. Tell us these things and we can give you better suggestions

The fishranger has Endurances for 149, but I think they are sold out of the model I posted. If you can find one I would jump on it if I were you.

If fish ranger still has the Endruance on for 150, that's definitely where my money would go

As much as I would love an endurance for only $150, A majority of my budget is coming from a TW giftcard

Yep, I've got two endurance 714c's and they are fantastic jig rods for those weights!

If you wait until Black Friday if TW has their 20% off sale, then you can get one of the 714's for 159, if they still have them in stock. I've only used Powell rods, so I can't really comment on others

Edit: If I had to go with a different rod I would probably try out a Duckett Micro Magic. Probably the 7' MH or the 7' H for jigs. On TW's website its recommended that the 7' MH is good for 1/2 jigs but someone posted a review saying that rod felt like a M.

Im really looking for a rod that I can use before the NH winter. I can probably find another 20$ to add to my budget, Are the Powell Max any good? they have a 7ft Heavy action.

I got the Powell Max 683 as my first baitcasting rod,and looking back I should've spent the extra money to get an Endurance. The pricepoint of the Endurance series isn't too far from the Max series. ($170-200). The Max series of rods are awesome, but you are better off spending the extra money because the Endurances are a lot better and you aren't paying that much more.

If you're limited to TW and 150, I'd check out the Duckett Magic/Micro Magic, St. Croix Rage, and Fenwick Elite Tech. Powell Max is a nice rod. I used to have a 683cef that was my do it all rod, though I wouldn't call it a dedicated jig rod.

The tatula is a very nice rod for the money. Definitely a rod I'd take a look at if it was me. I will however 2nd 3rd and 4th the endurance 714 if you can come up with the extra cash for it.

Well I am going to save you some money. Get the Duckett ghost rod and spend the rest on something else. These rods use the same blank as the micro magic. they only cost $100

Glad others mentioned the Tatula as well. Haven't fished on but they've been getting great reviews. In hand they feel nice... maybe I should buy one....

The ghost is not the same blank as the micro magic btw. I don't have a ghost but my cousin does. I used to have a boat load of micro magics and white ices, and when using my cousins ghost, it is definitely not the same blank. Plus, have you noticed how the ghost turns yellow in a couple months? Not very aesthetically pleasing.

If you want to try something different. would give a look at a Gen 1 cumara. Something like a 7'2 MHXF. I still think these rods are a good buy and perform with the best of them in this range.
