DontPanicDan Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 After looking around quite a bit I finally found a nice spot for me and my wife to go fishing off the bank at a local pond not too far away. After fishing nothing but Senkos I thought I would give a square bill crankbait (KVD 1.5) a try that I had just picked up as I've never fished with one before. I loved the wobble action and fishing with it was a lot more interesting to me than senkos. We got there late afternoon and left just after sunset. No bites right up until the sun went down. The first was what I assumed was a Perch(it was dark) and it looked like it had a mouth smaller then the circumference of the treble hook on my crankbait. Is it normal for a small panfish to go after a crankbait like that? Anyways it was a chore getting the hook out without completely tearing up it's mouth. About 15 minutes later we were about to wrap it up I was making some quick casts as my wife was grabbing our stuff and wham, got a nice bite, and was very happy to see it was decent bass. It looked and felt bigger than what the picture shows, but it was so dark outside, and our iphone was our lone light source(bringing a headlamp next time) hence the poor pictures. Anyways, that makes my first bass from the bank, and here's hoping there are many more to come! Quote
Jollygreens Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Very nice. I caught my first largemouth ever bank fishing two weeks ago. Nice bass you caught! Quote
gramps50 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Can't complain about that one at all. Month or so I got a 2.5 lb fishing from the bank. It was in a little park pond/lake. Nice fish BTW. Quote
TingTingEightSix Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Very nice catch. Especially as your first bank bass. Did you measure and weigh it? Also look at fhat pretty , dark green color, beautiful fish. Quote
boostr Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Nice, Congrats on your first bank bass. I think that small fish is some type of sunny: pumpkin seed or bream. I've had rock bass and perch hit crank baits, and it seems like pumkinseeds or bream do also. Quote
