Chronophayze Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Hey guys, New to the forums, but not to the site and bassfishing. I've recently moved out here in the Spring and was killing it fishing from the bank during Spring with soft plastic swimbaits and topwater, but as summertime hit and the weather here is 90+ daily and even 80+ in the evening, I've been skunking the past week except for a few missed hooksets on a frog. Seems the Post-Spawn is definitely over and I'm thinking they all moved out to the deeper sections of the Reservoir, which I can't access due to bank fishing. Anyone have any luck lately? Quote
DropTheBass Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Hey! I also fish at Puddingstone Reservoir frequently. Try Sailboat Cove. There's plenty of cover there and I get many topwater bites at night. The fish here are very finicky. One day they might go for topwater, the next day they won't. Like you, I've skunked majority of my time here (at night), but don't give up. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted August 7, 2014 Super User Posted August 7, 2014 Welcome to Urban fishing in S. Cal. It's def tough to be consistant. I would head down the 57fwy and venture into some of OC's city and regional parks. Or invest in a float tube so you can get off the bank at Puddingstone. Quote
Chronophayze Posted August 7, 2014 Author Posted August 7, 2014 Thanks guys, I recently discovered Sailboat Cove and had luck with a Craw on a Carolina Rig. She spit the hook when she jumped, but it was my first time hooking up with a Carolina Rig, so now I know how to work it/set the hook. Funny story, the other night I was there all by myself and it was quite peaceful and quiet, then literally 3 ft next to me a giant splash and I could see the waves of the fish swimming away. Threw my rig out there a couple of times but didn't have the time to change out lures, as it was near closing time and Sheriffs are pretty religious about kicking everyone out. Right before I left though, I shined my headlight at the spot and sure enough, she was still there and she started swimming away from me. That was pretty cool. 1 Quote

Yeah, they usually start biting at around 8:40. Not much time before the park closes, unfortunately. Nice job though! Quote
