papajoe222 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 We need to give a name to this jinx person/entity/spirit or whatever you consider the source to be. Whatever it is, it tagged along on my fishing vacation. I had mentioned to my kid that I haven't had any trouble getting my outboard started. I thought the battery was going to die. Before I could get it running today. Twenty minutes later a nice smallie decided to share one of the trebles on my Super Spookwhile cone of he other two was still in. His mouth. Got it buried into my right thumb we'll past the barb. I'm not saying anything to anyone until we can figure out what will keep. This jinx monkey busy until hunting. Season Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted July 30, 2014 Super User Posted July 30, 2014 It's Murphy's law. Fishing and hunting are probably the best examples of it...when you aren't prepared to set the hook, a fish slams it, a big fish always knows to eat anything attached to 6lb test or lighter, when you aren't ready to shoot, a wood duck will come straight over your head at 10,000 miles per hour, go deer hunting, and the squirrels are everywhere, go grab a .22 and the squirrels will vanish but that 12 point will walk right up to you, if there is a single twig in the way when taking a shot, your arrow or bullet WILL find it. The list goes on and on. 3 Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 30, 2014 Super User Posted July 30, 2014 It don't need new name, it's called Murphy's Law. It's Murphy's law. Super User lmbfisherman Posted July 30, 2014 Super User Posted July 30, 2014 It's Murphy's law. The list goes on and on. Although I had a successful weekend at the cottage last week. There were moments when these things happened. 1. Biggest pike ever swam for my Spinnerbait literally 8-10ft out from me and when it gulped my SB I didn't set the hook. As my brain decided to just go HOLY COW THAT IS A HUGE PIKE! THAT HEAD COULD EAT FIT MY FOOT. Mr Pike takes SB under my kayak and tried to set hook, my SB came flying up out of the water. 2. Again fishing my SB and I go hey, I got a hit....lets not set the hook or anything and it spits it. 3. Very next cast, fish on...set the hook YES! I get him near me, nice smallie..I go hrm, should I get my net? Nah I'll just grab my line he's done I think, he races out one last time...and SNAP goes my line! 4. Fish a super fluke white ice color, just before I casted I said, well crap I didn't check to see if the bait was on properly like I do every cast. Bite!..set the hook, about half way lost it. When I reeled up my bait the hook wasn't exposed enough (guess somehow was buried deeper than skin hook), so probably didn't have a hook on the fish. Those are some of the highlights, there were other little things that I forgot to do and missed fish. If my game was on it should've been a 10-15 fish day, instead it was 5. The next day I redeemed myself though and my game was sharp. Quote
papajoe222 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 I know what you guys are talking about, but I was referring to situations like: "I never hooked myself when lipping a bass." Two days later you put a #2 treble in your thumb. My personal favorite is: "I've never broken a rod tip." On the second outing with my custom built tube rod, it broke when I set the hook on a rock!
