There's an idea.

Many years ago when I first started fishing I tried braid and had the worst fishing experience imaginable and it took a long time for me to go back to it. Granted, there have been some remarkable avances in braid technology, but to me it's like a food item you puked on, you don't go back for a long long time...

So I just want to try something different.

Same here but scratch spider and insert Trilene Pro and Kanzen. The only one I havent liked is Kanzen 15#(weak)

Here here! I've tried several different brands but I always end up back home. I'm a really big fan of P-Line's Spectrex braid as well so I'm looking forward to trying out their new offerings just shown at ICAST but in the end it's always the same, original Power Pro.

I like the quality, strength, and overall durability of Power Pro, but am thinking hard about trying 832 b/c of all of the awesome reviews I have read.

Original power pro for me. As mentioned,it's cheap and I can pick it up at Walmart. I use 10/30/50/65 and it's hasn't let me down in 10yrs. I've never tried suffix so I can't speak on it but I know a lot of people like it.

I tried Berkley Trilene braid, Spiderwire Stealth and now I'm giving Power Pro a shot. The Berkley and Spiderwire were fine, but I'm trying a few to find one I like. So far Power Pro is my favorite.

I'm a big fan of the Sufix braids.  The Performance Braid and the 832 are both really good.  I never looked back to Power Pro once I started using Sufix.

Thanks for your input guys, I was eyeballing the 832, but my local Dick's Sports didn't have 30 lb test, so I'll be trying out PP. The store was running low on a lot of fishing equipment/items as a matter of fact.

What pound test braid should I use? Any other help would be great. Thanks.

Choose your braid for the cover you are going to fish, not the size of the fish. Honestly speaking most of the fish I catch are 12-13" but that doesn't mean I'll be throwing 20# braid into laydowns any time soon. 

 

Open water- 30#

Sparse weeds -40-50#

Thick matted weeds- 50-65#

Wood- 65#

I got a free spool of Tuf Line Supercast (20# I think). At first  it was great on a baitcaster. I could cast 10 or 15 yards further with it than 20# mono and it was super sensitive and handled very well. I bank fish so I only used one outfit (it gets all the usage). I'm retired so I fish 3 or 4 hours a day. So I give my equipment a serious workout.

 

After about a month I noticed what looked like twist in the line. Closer inspection revealed the outer core was slipping on the inner core. Once that happened I got a lot of breakoffs on hooksets. When I tried using a mono or flouro leader using  Albright Knots,  Bristol Knots and Uni to Uni Knots I was plagued with the line breaking at the knot. I had never experienced this problem using PP and other normal braids.  I finally discarded it. Since I had some available I tried 50# Tuf Line XP. The 50# Tuf Line is much thinner diameter than the 20# Supercast. It performed flawlessly and had none of the issues associated with Supercast. I'm still using it now although in a limited capacity since I switched to mono for most of my fishing.

I'd love to weigh in on this topic as well. Like many, i still use original power pro for a lot of applications. That said, more and more I'm shifting to 832. They're both great lines and both work extremely well.

My only complaint, and really, its not a complaint at all is that Sufix 832 sinks. While this is generally a non-issue, you need to be aware of it if you use it for topwater and intend to fish slowly. I fish it for frogs quite a bit but my frogs are always in motion. Just something to be aware of.

If you're slow fishing, power pro is still the go to.

I too have tried the Supercast and just like shanksmare, had issues with the coating coming off at my connection knots. The line was definitely weakened and had some major problems. That's not a line I will try again.

 

Just some thoughts... hopefully they're helpful.

Sufix Performance and 832, Original PowerPro, Daiwa Samurai, Tuf Line Supercast, Stealth Spiderwire, Berkley Fireline.  I like Performance in the low cost bracket.  I thought Original PP was a bit more sensitive, but that maybe only because of how coarse it is thus feeling bumps as it goes through the guides.  Noisy too.

I like both 832 and power pro, but definitely prefer 832 for spinning reels, because it's not as stiff as power pro.  For baitcast reels, I have no reason (as of yet) to prefer one over the other, so I'll use whichever one is on sale and is available in the color I am looking for.

I tested the new stren braided line. I like it very similar texture to powe pro with the woven strands, but much less stiff, breaks in to limp thread like very quick but very strong. I hear ohero adrea-line is good stuff too. And at times I use power pro it is good.
