Weld's Largemouth Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 So this pond i fish has a dock from the parking lot that extends out into the pond. The dock is surronded by lily pads and people fish off the dock almost every day. When i go there i usually toss a frog or a senko in the pads and i rarely pull up a fish. Out in the middle, in the open water, it gets pretty deep... any tips? how and what should i use? Quote
kikstand454 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 A kayak! Lol. Try to launch a heavy jig or c-rig out into the deep water and cross your fingers. Quote

kikstand454 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 C-rig is great! Research it. Use your favorite plastic. Catch fish! Quote

Super User gulfcaptain Posted July 29, 2014 Super User Posted July 29, 2014 If it's heavily pressured, I would try a dropshot rig or a Fat Ika depending on weed growth. 1 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 29, 2014 Super User Posted July 29, 2014 Any way of moving around the pond on foot or are you dock bound? Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted July 29, 2014 Super User Posted July 29, 2014 whats so special about it? it just has a weight and a bead, which i dont even have and the c-rig is more then just a weight and a bead. It's a way to fish as well as feel what the bottom is with the help of that heavier weight. And the weight and bead dragging across the bottom can perk their interests as well, but then you have your bait anywhere from 12-36" back behind there kinda being flylined out and moving somewhat on it's own. Lets the bait rise up off the bottom and you can cover water pretty quickly since you're just dragging the rig along. The plastic you're fishing has it's own movement depending on what it does as you slowly bring it in. 1 Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 Any way of moving around the pond on foot or are you dock bound?I can move to the left of the dock on shore and to the right there is a path in the woods that leads to a small opening of lily pads. I've never caught anything here at this spot and not many people go to it. Here is a pic , and you can see the dock across from it Quote
kikstand454 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Nvm about the c-rig. You'll only be able to throw it in a tiny window off the front of the dock. Stick to your senkos and frogs. Add a horny toad, buzzbait and paddle tail worm. A weightless trickworm may be good too. Good luck. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted July 29, 2014 Super User Posted July 29, 2014 How can I drop shot if I'm not in a boat Cast it out, and work it back in. You don't have to have a boat to dropshot. To vertical fish it yes. But it works good as you keep your bait up off the bottom as you work it in. Just a different presentation that can work on heavily pressured fish. Use a 4-5" straight tail worm, or curly, up to you. Can nose hook it or wacky...normally fish it with a 3/16-1/4oz dropshot weight. Did this in Louisianna at a buddys house that had a drainage pond behind it and lit them up. Normal worm fishing produced a fish or two, dropshotting produced over 40 fish in a 5 day period up to 5lbs. Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 I've tried a lot for the past few hours and nothings biting Quote
RipzLipz Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Night time. Try late hours over the weekend if available to you. 1 Quote
CDobber Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 How can I drop shot if I'm not in a boat I have been drop shotting quite a bit from shore this season and found quite a lot of success, including a similarly heavily pressured pond/quarry. I wish i had the lily pads on ours though. I've had success on wacky rigs at mine in the past but they don't seem interested this year....they prefer a smaller worm (3" skinny senko) or the real stuff. The only situations I'm not liking the drop shot rig from shore are heavily rocked/cluttered substrate. Weeds are fine but anything else and I tend to lose my weight frequently. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Throw a senko in those pockets. Even into the deep water. I've caught fish in a pond similar to that in 18' of water in the middle of the pond on a senko. My PB actually. Quote
BadBassWV Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Maybe there just ain't that many fish in the lake?? Just because it looks like a bass sanctuary doesn't mean there are alot of bass there. Usually drop shotting a small finesse worm is about the best I've found for small pressured ponds. Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 I had tried everything, and I out a black senko on at 8pm and cast to deep water on the edge of lily pads. I pull in a 20 in 3 lb 12 oz bass!!!! Persistence pays off! I had been fishing since 3 pm and got nothing until now 1 Quote

Something most people don't do, think something different. Also, I would use a finesse jig and pitch it in those pockets. To change it up, use a blue or dark coloured tube (a lot of people don't try this on a jig). I fish heavy pressured ponds near me and I always do things people don't do. Everyone throws crankbaits, hard body jerkbaits...so I use spinnerbaits/flukes/jigs...and usually catch fish most of the time. 1 Quote
