Greenwrangler11 Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Fished yesterday at lox. Got on the water just before sunrise. Weather held up nice, beautiful day, just got hot real fast. Caught 5 small bass under a pound, a one pounder, and a nice 3.5 pound bass. The small bass were all caught on senkos, and the bigger ones were on a zoom super fluke. The bite stopped pretty early, by 0900 it was almost mon existent. Moved from the flats to the canal channel and tried the fluke, senko, and flipping a creature bait along the banks locks, and cover. Nothing bit. Anyone willing to share what they have found the bass are hitting out at lox or best areas to go once it starts to get hot? Quote
GLADES Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Once in the summer pattern the bite is basically first light or late dusk. By 9-10 am, I am done. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 31, 2014 Super User Posted July 31, 2014 I've had years where I have done fairly decent with bass in the summer, this is not one of the those years. I have pretty much put my fresh water emphasis on peacocks the last few months. I ventured out for some bass fishing yesterday pm, didn't take long to decide to put bass fishing on hiatus, just not enjoying it. Quote
shallow thinker Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 It was slow for me the last time out at Lox but I did stick a 6lb bass that day. I fished last weekend with a forum member in a local lake it was very slow for us too. One thing that often happens in summer out there is you do get some current as they dump water in the north end and open gates to let water out the south end. I've had success patterning bass that position themselves in choke points on the flats or those cuts between the flats and main canal. Topwaters and rattle traps work just as well as plastics. I know guys who do well in the canals in that current fishing vegetation points or the bends but I haven't done much of that myself. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 31, 2014 Super User Posted July 31, 2014 Getting my car windows tinted later today, owner told me to bring my rod as there is a peacock pond behind his store. Start this morning at about 5 am, hooked 2 tarpon but lost them on 2 nd jump. Switched spots, missed 3 snook and landed 2, first was pretty nice size. Hooked a 3 rd a tarpon but alas didn't land that one either, very hard jaws and never hit the sweet spot in mouth. Quote

Greenwrangler11 Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 The water level was high enough to get through the flats , a few spots were pretty thick and I had to clean off the prop. I found one spot in the middle of the flats that had a lot of hard bottom with and almost no thick vegetation, that's where most of the caught fish came from. Going to try there again. I will give the canals a shot again, had no luck last time. Another friend of mine and I will be launching our boats again this Sunday around 0600. Anyone else going out this Sunday? Quote

Without getting really specific, that's basically what I found last weekend out there. Find those hard bottom spots with clear, preferably moving water, and you'll probably get bit. I would imagine the water is even higher than it was a few days ago. Lots of rain has dumped into the area this week. Quote
Greenwrangler11 Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 I will have to do some more exploring out there in the flats to find more places like that. 1 Quote
Greenwrangler11 Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 Had my best day so far at lox today. Got out to my favorite spot around 630, just as the sun was starting to rise. Between me and my friend, we caught a 5.5lb, 3lb, 2.5lb, and a bunch of small ones. The bite was much stronger today, the fish seemed to be a little more aggressive than the last few times. Was using senko's and zoom u tail worms. AND On the way into lox, there was a flats boat leaving, they were one of the lucky few who got gator tags out there. Had a nice 10.5ft gator on the boat. 1 Quote
