Super User J Francho Posted July 28, 2014 Super User Posted July 28, 2014 My main rod is a custom build on a Saint Croix 4C79HF. It handles baits up to 4 oz. well. I think they still make it in the LTB line, if you want a factory build. I had mine made with a full rear grip and spiral wrapped micros. The other is an Okuma Mat Daddy. I put a full review on it in our articles section. Look for the "Who's Your Daddy" title. It's a really good rod for the money, and makes a heluva punching rod, if you don't mind switching out reels. 1 Quote

What I suggest is that you determine the weight of the swimbaits you are using and match that weight and your favorite line test to any rods you are considering. There are light weight hollow body and heavy swim baits so to give you one rod for all swimbaits may not be appropriate. And you can research "swimbait rods" and locate those that are made especially for the swimbaits you throw. Quote
cbass12 Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I bought Blue's BPS Extreme 7'10" H/XF this spring and it has handled big baits very well for me. He really liked it, and the only reason he got rid of it was he won a free swimbait rod from another site. It's rated 1/2-3 oz. Not the most glamorous recommendation but it's a very good rod, expecially when you can get them for $69 on sale. Quote

The main things I'm looking for are a nice long handle and a blank that loads good throwing 2-3oz baits As of now I'm looking at Okuma Dobyns Phoenix Quote

Some spend a fortune on their rod, others find a rod that fits what they are looking to do. As for me, I choose to fish an IM6 rod since I prefer to fish topshots of mono or fc and prefer the softer action IM6 has. As for what brand, well use a BPS Graphite Musky Rod in a 7'6"MH as well as the H action. But that's my preference and fits my fishing style and the requirements and spec's of what I was looking for. Tom I don't think you understood what I was trying to say. I was trying to say that if someone recommends an expensive rod that they explain to me what makes that rod worth the money. I ended up buying a low-mid range rod. To me I think it will be fine for no more than I use a swimbait. Quote
