I've had it with tungsten. To dad blamed expensive for how fast I go through them. Three packs in two days. At $9.00 bucks a pack.....NO!

I probably have enough to get me through this season, then it's back to lead. I know you might say, you have expensive rods and reels. That's true, and at the end of the season, I will still have them. Not so, the tungsten. Last trip I alternated between tungsten and lead. I didn't notice any difference, except I didn't cringe after losing a lead weight. As I have stated before, the lake I fish is seriously snag infested. Imagine if the lake you were fishing had the bottom entirely covered with barbed wire. Well, maybe it's not quite that bad, but it's BAD!...SO, it's bye bye tungsten and hello lead...GAME OVER! !!

Hootie

P.S...I like losing weight, but not like that....lol.

I don't blame you one bit Hootie, I first bought tungsten in about 98 , then 6, 1/4oz slips, were about 3. 50$ and I guess it's the only thing in fishing that seems to make makers very wealthy, at today's prices..... I have 150 pieces now, I won't buy it ever, unless it's slashed in price. I will be using brass probably idk... Guess I will cross that road later. I had about 100 tungsten jigs too, I got 6 now.... I know exactly how you feel....

I believe with that Nrx... You can use a plastic sinker and feel anything, right? I hear they are that good!

I totally agree.  I don't mind spending a couple extra bucks to increase my catch rate or to increase the fun factor of fishing but tungsten weights is where I draw the line.  When they first became main stream it wasn't so bad.  I think they were $4 or $5 for a 3 pack of 3/16 oz bullet weights and that to me was still expensive.  One other thing that bothers me is that once Tru Tungsten went under, there has not been a really good product like it since.

I can buy a year's worth of lead for $9.

I went out yesterday, flipping, had a massive hit set the hook, wound up being a pike bye bye $8 1oz tungsten. I feel your pain brother! Sucks cause no one local sells lead any more and I don't have the patience to pour my own.

I bought 2 packs many months back. Think I'm down to three tungsten bullets (from 9). They were even on clearance at Walmart. Strike King brand. But it stung losing any of them. Other than size, I'm not sure they made *that* much of a difference over lead. Sure a bit more transmission of bottom stuff, but I'm not sure strikes are among that transmission.

Better save those adrenaline rushes for catching a fish and not when loosing a sinker.

You can buy steel or brass.

Yea, Raul that's a good point, yet again, ultra steel transmits like tungsten! I have been playing with some bell sinkers, eg: dropshot.. Tube rigs, I have been impressed! Can't hardly find slips and a 1/2 oz is the size of a 1 1/4 oz tungsten.. If they would elongate it,...spread the weight out smaller diameter, vs a fatty huge sinker I would use it full time.....

Siebert outdoors has a much better price on Tungsten.  That is where I have been buying mine since the Road Trip!

I buy mine from a guy on ebay. Think it's between about $12-$20 for a 10 pack. You can get a 20 pack of 1/8oz (my most used) for $24. I'd never pay the ridiculously high retail prices.

You are absolutely correct. And the only way for me to do that, is to use weights that I don't mind mind losing...lol.

I lost three just yesterday so I feel your pain...

Not to mention the Gammy hooks.

I am still using some that I stocked up on when Walmart clearanced SK tungsten. I like the everything about them but the price. I have also come to the decision that for most of my fishing they have become too expensive for my budget. I will keep them on hand for limited use when money or pride is on the line!

Understand completely, I still use tungsten and like the size factor, but use them when the chances of a snag is minimal.

Steel egg sinkers for C- Rig , for T - Rig I don't much care ... Lead up to 1/4 oz. is fine - I even like to heat 'em up and powder coat them to match soft plastics for fun .

Another thing just dawned on me, unless you get tungsten online on sale with free shipping. Buying online is pointless. I've been getting the VMC bullets at DSG just so expletive expensive. Locally that's all I have no one has steel brass or lead bullets. All the mom and pop shops lead weights are salt (I'm right on Long Island sound) 1oz through 6oz bell or pyramid sinkers. Gonna have to find a dedicated painted lead bullet weight brand/web store.

Add a dozen weights to your next Siebert order.

Where will you be per pack after shipping?....Right at $11.00 I just checked. That is if I ordered one pack. Still $7.50 a pack if I ordered all he has.

Hootie

Its been a while since I've had to order it. I ordered something around 50 pieces of tungsten and my shipping was roughly 5-6$ from alleys. So i came out way ahead

Thanks for the tip! I just bought a six pack of the 1/8oz weights. I have bought Tungsten Bullet Weights on eBay before but right now, they were not on a my radar. But $25.00 for 24 weights is a good deal any day.

For a lead alternative, I can recommend Thunder Bullets brass weights.  Have used them for many years and the prices are great on the solid model .  The rattling model are more expensive, and kind of unique, though I don't know for certain they make any difference. If brass interests you, you might give them a look.
