Santana_moretto_fishing Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 i have very little experience fishing swim-bait other than on chatterbait in which i use lake fork. but other than that none i would like to use some hard or wooden one suggestions for clear water reservoirs and darker water suggestions. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 27, 2014 Global Moderator Posted July 27, 2014 What size swimbaits are you talking about? Price range? There's tons of good options out there but it'd help if you narrow it down a bit. Quote
Santana_moretto_fishing Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 any size and its largemouth hardbait style any price but something easy to use. Quote

Santana_moretto_fishing Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 thank you i really appreciate it! Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 28, 2014 Super User Posted July 28, 2014 I'd opt for the BBZ-1 Jr. (6" slow sink, wicked perch pattern) for starters. Not terribly expensive, yet it will produce exceptionally well at times. Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 U guys better not forget the Huddleston! Definitely one of the most realistic trout imitators out there. Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 For hardbaits though definitely spro bbz1 6 or 8 in. Very nice swimbait for the price Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Also 5 in lunker punkers r a good way to start. U can find the g2s for around $15-16 Quote
Brian6428 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 If it were me, I would be buying a wake bait like the ms slammer or a floating spro bbz-1. I bought a huddleston (rof 12), mattlures ultimate bluegill and mattlures baby bass this time last year. They all got stuck too easily so I never throw them because I don't want to lose a $30 lure. Get a floating swimbait and you can fish it above and around the thickest, nastiest cover, where the big bass live. Quote

Didn't forget about it but it didn't really fit into his request for suggestions of a good "hardbait style" swimbait Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted July 29, 2014 Super User Posted July 29, 2014 river2sea s waver.... easy to fish, great action and cheap for a hard style swimbait. the smaller size can be fished on typical gear. Quote

einscodek Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Via my latest TW order, I got Savage Linethru Trout and Mattlures Ultimate Bluegill and got no bites on them yet but fished them a couple of times. The Mattlures Ultimate Bluegill is expensive and underwhelming in action.. I had to burn it to any decent boottail action and on the retrieve it wobbled unnaturally. The Savage trout looks great in the water tho.. any1 wanna buy a once-used blemish-free like-new ultimate bluegill?.. pm me am I fishin this wrong in some ridiculous way? Quote

Just because the bait does not look good in your opinion does not mean the fish feel the same way. If you saw how little action there is fishing a Hud in the winter you would really be surprised. I know its hard to fish baits that visually give you no confidence but if you want to get better you have to push though based on the success of others. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted August 3, 2014 Super User Posted August 3, 2014 The great thing about dynamic lures is even though their swimbaits are under $20, they AREN'T cheap pieces of crap. At WORST, the only thing you want to change is the hooks, and the VMCs they come with AREN'T bad. Not to hijack, but their jerkbaits, the shallow and deep travado, are comparible to the lucky craft pointer 100 and the j spec imo has the best action of any jerkbait of it's size class on the market. I SLAYED the bass, both largemouth and smallies, on the j spec this spring when the water was in the upper 40s and low 50s. In size it's a little bigger than a LCP 78. Plus, they are half the price of the pointers and even when you change the hooks you spend under 10 bucks. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted August 3, 2014 Super User Posted August 3, 2014 Here is a video showing the underwhelming action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyCPFBPByP0 Hey Matt, is that the U2 or the original series? Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted August 3, 2014 Super User Posted August 3, 2014 Here is a video showing the underwhelming action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyCPFBPByP0 I'm pretty sure that Russe could throw ANYTHING and still catch giants. He fishes in the promised land. Quote

My buddy has one, they do look sick in the water. I was a little disappointed in the size though, a bit on the small side. I'm sure it will still catch monsters though. Quote
einscodek Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Why is mine not working like this? Also this vid shows the action in slow motion.. is it being burned fast? I usually run my swimbaits slow.. is this meant to be run faster? Should I add a belly hook perhaps it add more weight to the underside for stability? The one I have kind of wobbles more than this.. I'd really like to nail a bass on this lure.. Quote
Mattlures Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 No its not meant to be burned. Fish it just fast enough to make the tail kick. It should be swimming at slow speeds but if its not swimming as much as you want there is a little trick you can do. Run a paperclip through the hook eye and submerge the bait in boiling water for 1 minute. This will soften the bait up a tad and if its crooked at all, it will straighten it. Make sure it cools down in a perfectly straight position, like hanging from the hook eye with the paperclip. The bait will then be a little more active at slower speeds. Adding a treble will make it more stable and its recommended for better hook ups if your not fishing weeds. 1 Quote
