Santana_moretto_fishing Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Hey i fish alot at west point and currently live in thomaston, ga i love to bass fish its my number one hobby! but anyway each time i go to west point i catch many spots and only a couple largemouth any suggestions on where to go and what to use? thanks Quote
paulrobinson318 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Don't have any specific spots, but i almost exclusively fish a carolina rig at West Point. Mostly around points. I'll also throw a spinnerbait on the windy banks and a fluke/jerkbait around schools. Quote
Santana_moretto_fishing Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 will you explain what you mean spinner on windy bank? Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 28, 2014 Super User Posted July 28, 2014 When we lived in Rico, Georgia, I fished West Point Lake quite a bit. As it happened, the spotted bass eventually overran the largemouth bass and today they pretty much dominate. Spotted bass can be found on rocky drop-offs throughout the reservoir, but the best largemouth fishing that we found was up in the headwaters. We launched at the Ringer Access and motored up the Chattahoochie river to the big bend area around Potato Creek and New River. BTW Spinnerbaits are best where visibility is diffused by turbulence. such as you'd find along windblown shorelines Roger Quote
Fishing Cop Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I live very close to West Point Lake and don't fish it much. It is a bit harder to fish to me than Lake Harding. I think some of us should get together and have some fishing fun on West Point. Quote
catchin'em Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 will you explain what you mean spinner on windy bank? spinner baits are a great bait to adapt into your regular go to baits! learning to day fish them is an art that will probably never be mastered. when you throw a spinner bait always make sure your cast is as accurate as possible, if you are fishing timber or buckbrush edges or or grass lines or "windy banks" make sure you are casting to a certain spot if in timber throw a foot behind where you think the fish will lay and always cast in the "y" shape that branches will make from the tree. you will want to, almost exclusively use an underhand cast to improve accuracy but more importantly it will allow you to drop your blade in there silently and once it hits the water you give it a quick twitch....bang you got a reaction bite. when fishing windy bank you are fishing on a day the winds are above 8 mph, and you are fishing sections of bank or riprap bank you can go for far casts but make sure the angle your bait comes back is in the strike zone al long as possible such as paralleling. when you get that chop on the water keep the bait riding high in the water column( this is achieved through reel speed as well as rod tip level) this will decrease the vision of the fish and make them more susceptible to eating what your throwing. i obviously like the blades but if you practice laying that thing in there nice and smooth i think you'll grow to enjoy it, good luck out there!
