Today was my first time fishing the dropshot. I caught 3 small largies so far. I used the kvd finesse worm and the zoom trick worm in green pumpkin blue flash. I love this color. Anyway I was wondering what techniques yall use when dropshoting? Also the kvd finesse worm doesn't seem that durable to me, what yall think?

Define your drop shot set up; line test/type, hook size/type, weight size. Are you fishing a weedless drop shot?

I have been using a 6'10" ML XF St.Croix Rage spinning rod with a Pflueger Supreme MGX 25, 10 lb PP and a 6 lb FC leader. I use the VMC spinshot hooks size 1/0 and an 1/8oz dropshot weight, I have been doing well with the Zoom Zdrop in morning dawn and green weenie. I tie the weight to about a 14 to 18" tag end.

Works good for me.

I have been trying to focus on the drop shot a lot this year.  Up north I find myself using no less than a 1/4 oz more often.  I found that a tight connection between the weight and your rod tip was paramount to drop shot success and this seems to work best for me.

As for my setup - 6'10 M XF Spinning, 15lb Smackdown braid with a 8lb leader.  #1 VMC Spinshot, 1 foot lead to the weight.

Techniques

1 - Cast it out.  Let it hit bottom.  Begin a slow consistent drag back to the boat.

2 - Same as #1.  When I hit a rock or something very apparent.  I stop and jiggle the worm, keeping the weight @ the bottom.

3 - Same as #1 with hops to get the worm dancing up and down.

4 - Dead stick.  Cast.  Let it drop. tighten up the line and just leave it tight.  Maybe the occasional little (and I mean little) twitch.

Good luck.

6'10 ml x fast St Croix rage Shimano sahara 2500 10# power pro 8 or 10# fluorocarbon either gammy #1 drop shot hook or vmc spinshot weight varies from 1/8 to 1/2 ounce. I will drop it straight down and twitch it over fish. or cast and drag it back to the boat pausing occasionally
