ParkyDad Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Hey guys, got some great advice for fishing holes for me and my boys near us in Hampton roads. My other question for pond/lakes, would be where to fish from Williamsburg to Richmond. That's a stretch, but I'd try it every so often, if my wife will drive us that far. Those days are done for me, unfortunately. This would be bank fishing, so that may limit us, but it's cool. Being disabled has it's drawbacks, but I look at my glass as half full!!!! Thanks guys... Super User Darren. Posted July 26, 2014 Super User Posted July 26, 2014 Hey guys, got some great advice for fishing holes for me and my boys near us in Hampton roads. There's Waller Mill off of Airport Road in York/Wmsbg. It is a great fishery, but has only one dock area for bank fishing. However, it is accessible and convenient, and there are fish there, we've caught several bass off the dock. Drawback is that you have to pay a $2 fee to enter the park now. But the dock fishing is free. As for much past that, I'm afraid most of my fishing is south of Williamsburg. But I do know there are a number of reservoirs that have excellent reputations in Wmsbg. One that has been recommended to me is Little Creek: http://www.jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation/parks/little-creek-reservoir.html Here's another site to check: http://www.scout.me/fishing-spots--near--williamsburg-va Good luck! Super User Sam Posted July 28, 2014 Super User Posted July 28, 2014 Obtain a free copy of the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries Fishing in Virginia booklet and look at the places to fish between Williamsburg and Richmond. Check out Ed. Allen's place off Route 60 along with Rock-A-Hock campgrounds. You can rent a boat and motor at Ed. Allen's. Google each place listed in the booklet to find out if you can fish from a pier or the bank. Check out the marina's on the Chick River. Have fun; don't forget your needle nose pliers; wear a PFD while fishing; and don't litter. You will have some fun times. Quote
notevenanibble Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 It's too bad the built the Warhill Rec center and now run you off for fishing that pond. We used to absolutely clean up there before they opened the park. i'm coming back to town in early september and trying to decide whether i have to stones to chance dragging my canoe over there. VAHunter Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I know it's not quite to Williamsburg, but if you want to venture that far I would suggest trying the ponds at Cheatham Annex. Of course you would need base access. There are several on that base that offer fishing from shore and it's very close to the parking areas. I have fished them from shore in the spring/fall and done very well on bass and crappie. I have never fished them in the summer. Quote

I just checked and they do say on their website that you can fish the ponds from the bank. Here is the website link http://williamsburgoutside.com/2012/02/19/warhill-sports-complex/ last time i tried the park had just opened and we were told to leave. before the park opened we would get there at 6am and fish till noon. a normal day meant 20+ fish and a few in the 4 range. just throwing buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. i caught an 8 pounder post spawn one day.
