Are you guys successful using Rattle Traps during the summer?  I'm finding that lately the bass are pretty much staying deep and are pretty lethargic.  A buddy of mine says he's still getting action on them.  I'm almost to the point where I dont even bring them out during the summer.  They slay bass for me during the spring and fall but its like they repel bass during the summer months for me!!

I don't use them much in the summer and when I do, they don't work very well and get caught in the weeds.  not my first summer choice-for largemouth anyway.  They work well for Smallies, though.

Yup, in practical terms I fish them year round, it´s about where, how deep and how fast.

^ +1. I use (and catch fish on) lipless cranks all year 'round. Granted, they really shine in early spring and in the late fall, but they produce any time.

They work year round, a great lure to cover water with. This time of year in clear water, a faster retrieve often works best.

Walked a neighborhood pond this evening after work and caught a nice one on a Bill Lewis Mini-Trap. She hit it right at the bank

with a fast retrieve.

I picked up a couple of good size fish in my last tourney by stroking a 1/2oz RedEye. Try different speeds or pumping your rod tip during the retrieve That can trigger reluctant followers to strike. BTW, that works with most moving baits, the quick increase in speed makes it look like your bait is trying to flee.

Yep, always have caught em in summer, mostly in late evening in shallow 4-6 fow at edges of weed cover.. But also at other times.... Shade areas are ideal too.... Always, Always done well with a rattle bait! It's not just a spring bait....

Good luck!
