Will Missed Bass Hit Again The Same Day?

Looking for anglers' input here: Will a bass which came off while being reeled in, strike again in the same day?  I heard opinions that once a bass is hooked, whether it gets off or is caught and released, it goes through stress and trauma.  Is there any truth to a bass being spooked after it was hooked.

I think it depends on how long it was hooked for and how hard it fought before breaking or getting off. My buddy broke one off one time and I, jokingly, said "I'll get your fluke back". My next cast at the same stump gets me bit and in the fishes mouth is my buddy's hook, line and white fluke.

You see it on tv when the pros are sight fishing, they will hook one 2 or 3 times and still get the fish to bite again right away; other times later in the day; other times not at all. No rhyme or reason to it.

Yes, but if you fought the bass for a good run or 2, or even a jump, you will have no chance unless you try a different bait with different action, like, if you hooked it on topwater dont change to another topwater lure, change to something completely different, even then, your chances are slim to none, But if you never even had a hookset on the fish then youre good and you dont have to worry. This has worked for me in the past, and i hope it works for you.

I´ve caught the same fish twice minutes apart in the same location with the same bait.

just last week i caught a fish that had wrapped my buddy around a log and snapped the line.  he had a hook and about 5' of line hanging out of his mouth.  an hour and a half passed between the first and second strike.

Yes, ive never come back an hour later. But have hooked one, lost it, and either coght it right away on same lure or a follow up bait. During the spawn, more likely than not you can hook into them again. In fact once when i was 12 i found a smallie on bed under a dock. Tossed a green lizard in an cought her 3x, in about 20minutes.

Thanks for the input!  I agree the longer the battle the greater the stress.  I have heard if you are power fishing and miss a fish, to go right back in the same spot with a finesse tactic.

My brother and I landed the same 22" bass one time each day for three days straight (we were only there for 3 days on vacation) fishing the same colored texas rigged paca craw in the same location (so yes, they can get big by being dumb). I also fish a pond that is full of stunted 8-12" largemouth that will hit over and over again on any bait, you can catch it, release it, and cast to it again before it swims off, most of the time they eat again. Most fish won't immediately bite again after they have felt a hook for more than a few seconds, but you definitely can't catch them if you don't at least try to follow up. Definitely worth going back later in the day if you don't fight the fish for very long when you lose it.

I've never did that for sure, but once I ran a square bill off a stump and got a strike and hooked the bass for maybe 5 seconds then after it got off reeled it in to fix the line and cast to the same spot and hooked another bass 15 seconds later....

Could have been the same bass... Probably wasn't, but that's the only time I think I might have

Yes I miss fish all the time and come back in an hour and catch em.

Yes. I've caught a bass, released it, and caught it again no more than 5 minutes later with the same rig. I could tell by my previous hook penetration in its cheek. This was at my local pond, he must have been hungry...

I have caught the same bass in 3 consecutive casts. I guess it didn't help the poor fish that it only had one eye.... LOL....

I dont know if its the exact same fish but some fish I missed but did not get a hookset on I've tossed back in the same area and gotten.

If I got a hook into them and they spit it, I've had little success in getting successive strikes in the same area.

I'd say based on my experience alone, I'd say if a fish was getting pulled in via hook, its spooked.  If it just had it in its mouth and was pulled out w/o a hookset, it may or may not get spooked.  Either way I usually toss back hoping a school is there.

I know it can happen, but as to will it happen is a different story. IMO it depends on the mood of the fish and time of year.
