Maselyk Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I have my first ever tournament (besides small kiddie tourneys when i was young) coming up August 21-23! I am somewhat nervous, but I know that all I can do is go out and fish! My only concern is that the water is very high here in northern Minnesota, so that kills all the spots i know from fishing in previous year when the water was at a normal level. Any tips for finding new spots when spots that are usually dry land are 18 feet deep, and how to find new spots? Tried fishing some creeks during pre fishing but none yielded any fish other than northern! Any tips for a first timer? Thanks! Quote

Look for open windows on all of those flooded cottages along the shoreline! Quote
Maselyk Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Are you fishing as a boater or coangler? Umm, honestly, not totally familiar with the terms, me and a buddy are fishing it, using his.boat! Lol Quote
NathanW Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Okay, its a buddy tournament. Co angler tourney is when your partner is randomly selected the night before the event. Guys can either enter with their boat as a boater or without a boat as a co-angler. But your tournament is buddy format. Good luck!! Quote
DILLY07 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Look for docks to pitch a jig or texas rig style and pitch your lure under the dock. or look for submerged cover, do the same thing. good luck. take your time! Quote
ColdSVT Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I say this every time DO WHAT YOU DO! Dont over think it. Fish to your strengths and be very observant, listen to the fish 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 28, 2014 Super User Posted July 28, 2014 Can you find the original shore line with your electronics? Many times this original shore line is the first break line out from the new shore line Any cover around the original shore line? The original "spots" you fished, what brought you to them? Quote
jhoffman Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I say this every time DO WHAT YOU DO! Dont over think it. Fish to your strengths and be very observant, listen to the fish I fished a tournament last weekend. I was running down the lake wide open when I looked over and saw fish breaking the surface, pulled up shut the motor down and filled the boat in the next half hour. I wasnt even intending on fishing where I put my three biggest fish of the day in the boat. Paying attention is the key to everything in life. Quote

If the fish give you a clear clue you had better listen! Quote
missouribigbass Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 It's all for fun. So just go fish and have fun. Best advice I h s v r been given about tournament fishing. Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Don't psych yourself out. Remember that everyone will be fishing the same conditions and if you're having difficulty finding fish, so is everyone else. Fish your strengths and hopefully the water level will drop some beforehand. Quote
gablefish365 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Close your eyes and remember that first trip you took bass fishing and the excitement you had and any great memories you had and think of it as just another awesome time on the water. Just enjoy it and go fishing if your thinking about it differently your going to have your mind in the wrong place. Read the water and listen to the fish and have fun.... Quote
