Nibby Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 The title says it all. Been trying to use the Alberto knot to attach the flouro to the braid. Does anyone have any suggestions or is it just difficult with the micro guides? Any help is good help, thanks!! Quote
EvanT123 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 It would help if you tell us what rod you plan on using. Also one mans micros can be another's regular guides. I use the alberto with 40lb braid and 12lb mono on a powell endurance which in my opinion has pretty small running guides without a problem. I can hear/feel the knot tick the guides but have not noticed a decrease in casting distance. So to answer your question yes. Quote
livetofish28 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I use the Alberto on my senko rod which is a ST croix rage which has pacbay micro guides and I have no problems. And if you havnt used them let me tell you they are small Tight lines Andrew 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 The Alberto is a strong, slim knot. The answer lies in the exact size of the guides and diameters of the lines being joined. For the most part, the answer is yes. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 24, 2014 Super User Posted July 24, 2014 The Alberto knot uses 2 strands of leader and 2 strands of braid = total of 4 strands of line that must go through the guides smoothly. If the tag ends fold over the knot you add another strand or 5 strands going through the guides. Tom Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 24, 2014 Super User Posted July 24, 2014 I use a Ducket micro-magic with 40# Samurai and 20# fluorocarbon leader sometimes. My preferred joining knot is the Uni-uni--with six turns on both lines with the tag ends cut flush with the knots, I have no issues. Quote
Nibby Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 The rod is a Johnny Morris 7 ft mh carbonlite with micro guides. Thanks for the input! I have not experimented with the knot much and it could just take time to get better at, but if anyone has had a similar situation it would be great to know! Thanks again! Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 24, 2014 Super User Posted July 24, 2014 I wouldn't use braid with leader with micro guides, the tip guide ring is very small diameter and any debris is going to be an issue. Samurai is small diameter .013 for 40 lb and soft, plus it sinks when wet. Unless you feel you need a leader, try the braid without it, that solves any problem with micro guides. Tom PS, my micro guide tip ring is .06 or 1/16" Quote

I would be really careful with that. I just took that exact same rod back to Bass Pro a few weeks ago because one of the guide inserts fell out when I was using the alberto knot. I had 20lb braid and 14lb leader. Quote
Nibby Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 Sounds like a better idea not to test it... Thanks for the input!!!! 1 Quote
