Hey everyone, can I get an honest opinion on the GL2 rods. I've used them a couple times and wasn't impressed with the rods, especially at the price point. But in fairness, not owning the rod I thought I'd give everyone a chance to voice their thoughts on the rods

over priced for what they actually offer. You get better performance and components on rods nearly half the cost. That handle is incredibly comfortable though

I, too, like the handle; basically hate everything else. The blanks are heavy and as thick as a tree trunk, plus they're dead. The aluminum oxide guides can be found on $30 rods. If they sold them for $100, they'd be a pretty good rod. At $200, someone should be ashamed of themselves. Not only are there better rods in the $100-$200 range, I'd almost say that there aren't any worse; to be honest.

Pretty much what everyone above said. If you want G.Loomis, save up for the new IMX or find the last gen one for 200 ish.

I have two of the old Blue GL2 ( 2003 model year 150$) i absolutely love em and still use em

I never cared much for the newer models especially since the price went up a good bit and the performance kinda went backwords imo

They remind me of the Mojo + $100. Kind of heavy and not real sensitive

Can't speak for the old one, but I bought a new IMX for around $200 and it wasn't wortg it either, even at that price. There's rods under $200 that blow the IMX away, in my opinion.

Opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one.

I can´t speak of the new ones, I have several from the old ones and liked them very much, they are now relegated to the less glamorous chores like spinnerbaiting but I wouldn´t sell them either. Pf course, back then they weren´t almost $200.

I´ve been thinking about getting a crankbait specific rod again, I have the 6´6" MH in my sights, but of course you don´t need the absolute, most sensitive rod for that purpose, for more glamorous chores I have the IMXs.

I got the 7'1 " MH version, and I like it just fine.

I don't think I'd buy another, but I'm not mad for buying it either.

As stated the handle is very comfortable. I paired mine with a Daiwa PXL-R, so it's really easy to fish with all day long.

Handle is awesome, performance I'd say ok...I wouldn't buy another one, but I use it in my rotation....I usually have a swim jig or spinnerbait tied on.

X2 on what Ty said. In addition I can think of one person that has bought one and actually thought the rod was the price. So many better options in the $100-$200 ballpark.

I am not a big fan of the GL2.  I think G.Loomis rods quality and sensitivity start with the IMX.  I would agree that the GL2 is like the Mojo and maybe even the Triumph in the St.Croix line.  I also believe that the quality and sensitivity start in the Avid rods when comes to St.Croix.

I like my 7'5" heavy stick my 7'1" not so much.. Baitcast rods... I got mine at 100$ each... But at retail? No way... You do get the wildcard with those rods at retail, that entitles you to a over the counter replacement at any dealer, anywhere! So that could be important... I really like the handles, for split grip it's the best IMO .. The guides get it done but are not exceptional by no means, but they work! So far mine are holding up nice, feel is average, it gets it done, actions and tapers are great.... I think the last gen. Imx is a great rod... I mean great.....!!!
