ThatZX14Fella Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Me and my friend went fishing today and he very rarely does bass fishing. We got there and weren't catching anything for a while, then he caught about a three and a half pounder. We were fishing a little while longer and he caught an ever bigger bass (maybe not four, but close to it). I didn't catch anything the whole day and I've been working on my techniques a lot lately. Was it just beginners luck or am I off my game? If it's any count he caught the first on a black lizard, and the second on a rattletrap. I didn't have another weight for myself so I didn't fish worms much and when he wanted to try a rattletrap I decided to give it a shot and turned up empty. Quote
mcgreggor57 Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 LOL, Every time my wife joins me she always catches the first fish and usually the most. I would like to think I have a better handle on technique than her, but the proof seems to be in the proverbial pudding. 2 Quote
RossCo91 Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I've had similar situations before,Luck is always an element in bass fishing but I don't think that is just the reason,Like you said you have been working your techniques and when he catches and you don't you can feel anxious or annoyed, a multitude of emotions. It's seems to be a silly thing when you think about it but you are casting into area's you from your experience think there should be fish, where as your friend is just there casting where-ever and is more relaxed when he is fishing,That is why he could be catching more.So what you need to try and do next time, is be relaxed, slow it down and enjoy the day being on the water even if your not catching, as soon as you get uptight in even the slightest it hampers your fishing. 2 Quote
Violinguy Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 It's why I love fishing by myself. The other guy catches more fish every time. 2 Quote
OroBass Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Take him fishing again. If a guy repeatedly beats you, he is better! Quote

In fact her PB is just a hair bigger than mine, lol. What makes it even worse is she insists on only using "pretty colors". So bright neon pink stick baits are a go-to of hers as well as anything "sparkly". 1 Quote
ThatZX14Fella Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 We're going again this week, so we'll find out if I'm just a terrible fisherman or if he just got lucky that day. Quote
VegasFishing Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 If anything, it sounds like you have a new fishing buddy... 1 Quote
Smokinal Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Take him fishing again. If a guy repeatedly beats you, he is better! This. And if he does, use it to your advantage. Watch him and see what he is doing different. Don't be stubborn and stick to your non-fish-catching ways. If he consistantly catches more or bigger fish, he's doing something you're not. You should try to learn something, anything, every time you go out. Quote

Super User Catch and Grease Posted July 23, 2014 Super User Posted July 23, 2014 When I'm fishing with someone that doesn't fish much I'm hoping that they have a good day, if they catch more than me then that's great and I don't mind lol I took some family to the lake around here and I didn't catch a single fish but managed to get them hooked into a couple each. To see their eyes light up and all the enjoyment they get is great. 2 Quote

That is true, but I never have the chance to go fishing since I don't have my driver's license, so when I do go I want to catch at least one. Lol 1 Quote
