jy2427 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I have fished Burke Lake, Lake Barton, and everything to do with Occoquan without much luck. Any small lakes anybody knows about. Quote
georgeyew Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 You should try Lake Braddock and Lake Royal. They are close to each other. And there are some nice sized fish in both. 1 Quote
rivafishn Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 The Occoquan reservoir is one of the best fisheries around, but you have to put time in and learn it. This time of year the better fish have moved out off the bank, but if you can find them there are better odds of running into several of them. I'm still trying to figure it out myself, but I know of plenty of people that are out there catching good fish every weekend. The tournament winners are usually pulling in bags of six fish at 25 pounds or better. You can also fish several of the creeks on the Potomac river. Quote
quanjig Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Royal and Braddock are great in the spring and fall but tough this time of year, same with Mercer. The res is great all year long if you have a boat and know it! Try some of the Reston lakes. Burke is a tough nut to crack from shore but on a boat can be great at times as well. You can hike down to Hemlock and try for some smallmouth, that's always fun. Four mile run in the winter can be productive. Look at google maps and check out neighborhood ponds, just make sure you take out any trash you find, keeps the residents happy!! Lots of NOVA guys here to help if you need it! Quote
jy2427 Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 I have a couple of ponds in my neighborhood that have been great and have been down to hemlock too. I have never seen or caught a smallmouth down in hemlock I wound up catching 100 bluegill. Might go down there today, any ideas? Quote
quanjig Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Small cranks and small t-rigged straight tail worms or on a shakey head. Baby brush hog and even senko's work down there. Quote
simek3ru Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I'm just getting into fishing and taking my son out (10 yr old) is always fun. We live right next to Goose Creek in Leesburg and was wondering if anyone knows some good spots along the banks that we could check out. Also, any advice on what baits or lures to use, along with good times of the day and good months to catch some bass would be awesome. Quote
jy2427 Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 I don't know goose creek but if you are near the shenandoah just go get some bitsy minnows and a canoe and you can catch hundreds of fish Quote
Tuna_xx Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I'm with simek, does anyone know of any places around leesburg, VA? Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I'm with simek, does anyone know of any places around leesburg, VA? lookup kipheart bridge landing in leesburg, you can park there and walk the trail along goose creek and fish for smallmouth and eventually it will lead you to the potomac river. also, lookup beaverdam reservoir in Dulles, VA. not far from leesburg, but not really good for bankfishing. for some reason people dont like mentioning this place but i really dont care as its public, theres good bass fishing there but its tough. nice crappie too. theres a few local ponds around there too. try going down back roads such as dry mill road and the roads off of that, many connect to harmony church road, lots of ponds back in that area, just ask permission or you could drive a half hour or so to the shenandoah off route 7 or in harpers ferry area. same for the potomac, not far to get to several spots there. Hyrule Bass Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Thanks so much:) your welcome, any of them working out for you? Quote
Huntrava Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I would not recommend Lake Accotink. There are some big fish in there if you have access to a canoe or kayak, but it's heavily pressured and 75% of the lake is shallow and muddy. Quote
steveksun Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 i've been fishing fountainhead lake lately without much luck, has anybody tried the smaller ponds in bull run manassas? Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted September 22, 2014 Super User Posted September 22, 2014 steve, what water are you referring to? I'm guessing Occoquan, since there's a Fountainhead Park/Marina there. If so, there's a current/running thread on Occoquan that might help. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/133334-anyone-hit-the-occoquan-reservoir-lately/ As to your question, I am not going to be much help. I haven't really tried many ponds in the area. Quote
Tuna_xx Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 your welcome, any of them working out for you? Sorry for not getting back to you I haven't had a lot of time on my hands lately. I just went down to kipheart bridge today, but unfortunately I had no luck. Any advice? I was trying to catch smallmouth and trout. And I was using a small spinner lure with a bobber about a foot up. Are there trout in kipheart bridge? Or if there's not, what do you recommend to do for the smallmouth. Quote
