Jraut98 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Which reels better and what size should I get for my st croix 6,6 med fast action spinning rod Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 21, 2014 Super User Posted July 21, 2014 The Symetre is one step above the Sahara in the line up, in theory the Symetre is "better" in the practice I don´t see any difference worth the extra cash, for a real difference you need to step up to the Stradic. The Sahara is an excellent reel for little money, Which size ? ----> 2500 Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 The Saros (one step below the Stradic is where the worm gear oscillation comes into play which is a good step up. 1 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted July 21, 2014 Super User Posted July 21, 2014 Get the Symetre if those are your two choices. If you can spend a little extra, the Saros is even nicer. Quote
J33wolf Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Both are great reels. However if you have large hands, take the rod with you that you are going to mount the reel on. Do a test run and see if the bail hits your knuckles occasionally. I have both reels and I get the occasional knuckle bump but not enough to say they are bad reels. You can't go wrong with either depending on your budget. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted July 21, 2014 Super User Posted July 21, 2014 Agree with most said above. Both are good reels. I've got a Sahara, passed on Symetre when I was in the market. Instead made the jump to the Stradic. Now that's a decent leap, IMO (Sahara -> Stradic). As far as size, that is really up to you. I know most will suggest a 2500 size reel for bass fishing, but I fish with 1000 size Shimanos. There is PLENTY of power in a 1000 size reel. I also use 10 lb Power Pro mainline, so that eliminates "not enough line for bass fishing" because it is 2 lb mono diameter equivalent. But as mentioned, if you have larger hands, that may not play well with your knuckles. If you are buying in-store, grab a rod like yours and ask the folks if you can put the reel you want on that rod to get the feel of it. I am really glad I did this. FWIW, one of my Stradic 1000FI models is mounted on a 6'6" Carbonlite rod. Incredible balance. Quote
wngan9447 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I'd go with the symetre for the X-ship. Look this up if you aren't familar with it. I wouldn't buy a new shimano reel without it. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted July 21, 2014 Super User Posted July 21, 2014 Can't go wrong with either, both feel almost the same. 2500 based off the guess you are going with 8-12lb line since you going to use a medium rod. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted July 21, 2014 Super User Posted July 21, 2014 If you've settled on Shimano buy the white one, it has a metal frame... oe Quote
