Yet again; although only a few guys give quality answers, it'll give new users as well as some of the old vets a way to learn and 'teach' through their opinions

The third installment will be on PLASTICS and your thoughts. This does NOT include senko's, that will be the next one.

Questions to Consider:

What is your favorite plastic? (who makes it, price, where you bought, color?)

Under what circumstances will you throw any type of plastic?

How do you determine what color and type of plastic you will throw? Also, what determines if it gets some sort of weighting?

What hook do you recommend for certain plastics?(who makes it, size)

Are there any plastics that you've tried that you do NOT suggest?

Are there any lure specific plastics that get a certain rod?

What techniques do you use for your selected plastic? Any tips here would be great for readers!

If there is anything else you wish to add to further the "knowledge" of your favorite plastic, do so here!

NOTE: QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER ARE QUESTIONS YOU CAN USE IN YOUR ANSWER TO SHED LIGHT AND MORE DETAIL TO YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T VERY "KNOWLEDGEABLE" ON THE SPECIFIC TOPIC.

NOTE: After all the topics are covered, I'll read the posts and see if any of the same lures were mentioned more than once and we'll get a community consensus. Could be interesting to see!

Strike king rage tail craw

$5.50 @ a local shop or anywhere online

I use a few colors - candy craw,green pumpkin,watermelon/red are my favorites

I throw plastics every time I'm on the water.

I have a rage craw rigged at all times. Also the rage 7" anaconda worm.

I choose color based on sunny or overcast and water clarity. All our water is pretty clear though.

Type is picked by the lake. Weeds or open water.

Weight is picked by water depth and winds. Or if I want it to fall a bit faster.

3/16 and 1/4 are the two I use the most. Heavier if flipping vegetation or deeper waters.

Can't think of any I don't like. They've all worked at one point in time

I have 2 dedicated rods for plastics. One with fluoro and one with braid. Same exact rods.

Gamakatsu 3/0 skip gap or ewg. Straight shank flipping hook for certain times. Main is 3/0 ewg

Swim it,drag it,hop it,buzz it on top,pitch it

Rage craw is my favorite go to plastic. You can't fish it wrong in my opinion.

I think this would really have to be broken down to different types of plastics. For the sake of arguments, I'll go with a bait I've been fishing a lot lately.

What is your favorite plastic? (who makes it, price, where you bought, color?)

Zoom Baby Brush Hog, varies I paid $2.79 at Academy, Black Sapphire and Plum Apple

Under what circumstances will you throw any type of plastic?

Anywhere I think the fish are at right now

How do you determine what color and type of plastic you will throw? Also, what determines if it gets some sort of weighting?

I always fish them with some kind of weight. Color varies by water clarity mainly. Darker colors in stained water, natural colors in clear water.

What hook do you recommend for certain plastics?(who makes it, size)

4/0 EWG worm hook I like Owners or VMC. I've been fishing them on a swinging football head that I make myself.

Are there any plastics that you've tried that you do NOT suggest?

Netbait Dirt Dawg, still no idea what to do with those goofy things.

Are there any lure specific plastics that get a certain rod?

A little confused on what the question is here?

What techniques do you use for your selected plastic? Any tips here would be great for readers!

I mainly drag them along the bottom or fish them with small hops.

Appreciate the answers you guys! This could be turned into one very large thread to give a "mass information" session. I've always wanted to try a brush hog to be honest.

I have tried the rage craws, caught a few walleyes for me.

What is your favorite plastic? (who makes it, price, where you bought, color?)

Zoom Ultra-vibe Speedworm, $4.29/pack, Green Pumpkin/Green Pumpkin Magic

Under what circumstances will you throw any type of plastic?

When the bite get's tough or locate bass by using search baits

How do you determine what color and type of plastic you will throw? Also, what determines if it gets some sort of weighting?

Clarity of water, I use green pumpkin for slightly stained to clear water, and start with Junebug Red for more stained water.  I will throw as little of weight as I can get away with...3/16ths - 3/8ths depending on current

What hook do you recommend for certain plastics?(who makes it, size)

For said worm, I like a 4/0 Regular WG hook

Are there any plastics that you've tried that you do NOT suggest?

nope

Are there any lure specific plastics that get a certain rod?

What techniques do you use for your selected plastic? Any tips here would be great for readers!

If there is anything else you wish to add to further the "knowledge" of your favorite plastic, do so here!

7" ribbon-tail wirm from Barlow's Tackle, tequila sunrise, junebug and green pumpkin. $13,74 per 100.

I throw 'em into any kind of cover I can find, anytime of year.

How do you determine what color and type of plastic you will throw? Also, what determines if it gets some sort of weighting?

Darker colors in stained to muddy water, green pumpkin in clearer water. I use as little weight as I can get by with. Usually 3/16 - 1/2 oz. depending on how fast I want the bait to sink and/or wind conditions

What hook do you recommend for certain plastics?(who makes it, size)

Eagle Claw L05JB for most worms. For the 7" worms, I use 3/0, but I use larger or smaller as the bait size calls for  EC L7013BP for thicker bodied plastics, sizes from 1/0 to 5/0 depending on the size of the bait.

I fish most plastics on a MH/Fast rod.

What techniques do you use for your selected plastic? Any tips here would be great for readers!

Hop 'n' Drop or slow dragging on the bottom. I especially like casting to a shallow bank and dragging the bait to the edge of a drop-off, letting it free-fall down the drop-off.

Just a couple of things. Don't be afraid to lose baits. If you're not losing a few, you're not fishing in the right places.

Slow down. Then, slow down a little more, especially on heavily pressured waters or in very clear water. Give the bass a chance to inspect your bait. A lot of times, I'll hop a bait and then let it set for 10 or 20 seconds. You'd be surprised how many times a bass will pick it up after it's set still for that long.

What is your favorite plastic? (who makes it, price, where you bought, color?)

Reaction Innovations Beaver, 5-6$, tons of vendors, Magic Craw

Under what circumstances will you throw any type of plastic?

Ice out to Ice up on a Jig, shakey head, pitched into cover, open water, deep structure, everywhere

How do you determine what color and type of plastic you will throw? Also, what determines if it gets some sort of weighting?

Water clarity and/or weather/sky conditions. Cover and how much it takes to get in and out of it. Open water I generally throw it on a shakey head or a 5/16oz tungsten weight.  The smallie beaver is a bait I use on a shakey head and in open water more than in cover and it gets more bites depending on the time of year. The large ones I usually always use in grass, wood, laydowns, brush, etc.

What hook do you recommend for certain plastics?(who makes it, size)

This could go on and on forever as there are thousands of variables like rod, line, cover, etc. For example, I won't use the same hook on a 3 power rod for a smallie beaver as I will on a 5 power rod.

Pertaining to the bait described in this post, I use the following hooks:

Secret Lures Widegap shakey head

4/0 Gama heavy cover flipping hook

3/0 VMC flipping hook

3/0 EWG and bend the hook point out 1-2 degrees

Are there any plastics that you've tried that you do NOT suggest?

Havoc Jerk Shad. Awful action. Has the durability of dry sand. Don't bite the tip off to get it on a swim jig. The taste is the foul.

Are there any lure specific plastics that get a certain rod?

I have a ton of different rods for different plastics based on how and where I'm throwing them.

What techniques do you use for your selected plastic? Any tips here would be great for readers!

I answered this in the hook portion

Most, if not all, soft plastics will catch fish better than others at some point.
