I'm headed south soon, and I have a couple questions for those of you who fish around gators.

1. Do people commonly take medium size dogs in bassboats where there are a lot of gators?

2. Have you ever heard of a dog being snatched off a bassboat deck by a gator?

I know they will take a dog along the shoreline, but I'm wondering if the boat changes things.

Thanks

From time to time I have seen anglers take out their dogs in the glades. They are very well behaved dogs because if doggy decides to jump off the boat for a swim, doggy will probably not make it back.

Never hear of gator snatching a dog from a boat.  I don't think I'd take a dog on a boat that had carpeting.

I used to let my lab swim all over the lake. I was probably more lucky then smart, I just always kept an eye out for them.

Never heard of one grabbing one off a boat but they sure gain interest when they see them.

Unless your dog is well behaved. I'd leave him at home. You never know what could happen. I sure as hell wouldn't take my dog on a boat. Not only does she like to pee on carpet. She's a bit aggressive at duck/birds.

My dog has been going out on my bassboat since she was a pup. She does good. I'm much more concerned with alligator behavior.

I have never heard of it happening. And I know that thousands of dogs go out everyday with their owners and make back just fine. Statistically I'm sure its an anomoly.

But I guess it IS always possible. ......

If you have any concern at all, I would say no!!

That's kinda what I thought, but I have a friend that grew up in the swamp and he says not to worry about it. There is an element of risk to everything. I just don't want to be stupid.
