stratos4me Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I'm headed south soon, and I have a couple questions for those of you who fish around gators. 1. Do people commonly take medium size dogs in bassboats where there are a lot of gators? 2. Have you ever heard of a dog being snatched off a bassboat deck by a gator? I know they will take a dog along the shoreline, but I'm wondering if the boat changes things. Thanks Quote

They are very well behaved dogs because if doggy decides to jump off the boat for a swim, doggy will probably not make it back. Quote
etommy28 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Ive never heard of one taking a dog from a boat. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 20, 2014 Super User Posted July 20, 2014 Never hear of gator snatching a dog from a boat. I don't think I'd take a dog on a boat that had carpeting. Quote
gar-tracker Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 I used to let my lab swim all over the lake. I was probably more lucky then smart, I just always kept an eye out for them. Never heard of one grabbing one off a boat but they sure gain interest when they see them. Quote
bassinOUT89 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Unless your dog is well behaved. I'd leave him at home. You never know what could happen. I sure as hell wouldn't take my dog on a boat. Not only does she like to pee on carpet. She's a bit aggressive at duck/birds. Quote

I'm much more concerned with alligator behavior. Quote
quanjig Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 If you have any concern at all, I would say no!! Quote
kikstand454 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I have never heard of it happening. And I know that thousands of dogs go out everyday with their owners and make back just fine. Statistically I'm sure its an anomoly. But I guess it IS always possible. ...... Quote
stratos4me Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 If you have any concern at all, I would say no!! That's kinda what I thought, but I have a friend that grew up in the swamp and he says not to worry about it. There is an element of risk to everything. I just don't want to be stupid. Quote
