STPC Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 A couple of more modern rock guys are Tom Morello and Jack White. Both have their own very different style but can really crank it. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted July 21, 2014 Super User Posted July 21, 2014 Who's Tommy Iommi? Sure he meant Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 22, 2014 Super User Posted July 22, 2014 Eric Clapton is my favorite, when he played with Cream. Jimi Hendrix was very captivating, but he relied a lot on acoustic psychedeliaAnother great guitarist was Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)Don’t count out Keith Richards, in his early years with the Stones, he played one mean guitar Roger 1 Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 22, 2014 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 22, 2014 "All Time" is a tough qualifier. Perhaps not of "all time", but one of the best is Joe Satriani. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned him yet. At least watch this video up the part where he plays with his teeth! Quote

quanjig Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I gotta go SRV, with Buddy Guy right up there! Couple guys in Los Lobos are really good too, too lazy to look up their names! Quote
Capt.Bob Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I'll stick with answering all time, and that be easy******Jimmy Page****** and with all these mentioning there favorites instead of "BEST" ,,,,,,again "Jimmy Page",,,,,,,where the HE!! is the love for Stephen Stills?????? Best on acoustical guitar, anyways in my book, and not even an honorable mention here. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted July 27, 2014 Super User Posted July 27, 2014 Any one ever hear of Willie Nelson? Hmmmm... Nope, doesn't ring a bell, 1 Quote
spartyon8 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Terry Kath of early Chicago (before all the lovee dovee stuff) **even Hendrix is on record saying that Kath is the greatest he had ever heard 2nd place goes to EVH. Quote

I would love to see documentation on that statement. There are lots of anecdotal statements about Hendricks saying that about a few guitar players. Rory Gallagher is one that comes to mind. One thing for sure, Hendricks did NOT consider himself the best. Once when asked if he ever practiced, he said "no, that is why I make so many mistakes." When on the Dick Cavett Show, Dick made reference to him being the best guitar player in the world, Hendrix disagreed. Dick then said he was the best guitar player in the studio. Hendrix remarked, "how about I am the best guitar player sitting in this chair." 1 Quote

Hendrix remarked, "how about I am the best guitar player sitting in this chair." It was a comment to Walt Parazaider, one of Chicago's band memebers during a live gig. W.P. has said it over and over again but unfortunately it was never recorded or written down to be "on the record" as I had said. Sorry to tick of another Hendrix is god person. BTW...not too sure if it helps my case but Hendrix also said that Billy Gibbons was one of the best. http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1180752 http://copywriter31.hubpages.com/hub/Jimi-Hendrix-or-Terry-Kath-Who-Was-The-Greatest-Guitarist-of-All-Time http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/Forgotten_Heroes_Terry_Kath http://www.allmanbrothersband.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=XForum&file=viewthread&tid=30612 It was even mentioned from the band in "Behind the Music" on VH1. For those who don't know him, check out some of the early Chicago stuff. His guitar is mostly in the background but he comes with some blistering solos. Quote
dave Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Quite a leap calling me a "Hendrix is god person", isn't it? Just from a simple rhetorical request on a fishing forum? If you read my other post in this thread, you'd get a better idea of my opinion. (all posts in this thread are but opinions) In my "opinion" very few can hold the proverbial candle to Danny Gatton. His guitar peers called him "The Humbler" for a reason. One of Joe B's mentors. Search other performances to appreciate his range and scope. Johnny B Goode...just when you thought that couldn't be fresh. Quote
STPC Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I almost feel bad forgetting to mention this one (especially since he is one of my all time favorites): Duane Allman. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 31, 2014 Super User Posted July 31, 2014 Stevie Ray Vaughn gets my vote. The guy could make stuff up on the spot and blow people away. If you ever got a chance to see one of his sound checks, it was like going to another full concert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNgcKoJAYgs Not my type of music but I when watch the video of these guys I have to go, HOW is it possible????? Truly amazing talent. Quote
STPC Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Fishtank, that guy is ridiculous on the acoustic guitar...definitely not my style of music though. Quote
dave Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 That is one of my favorite SRV versions ever. Stevie once said that he didn't play guitar, that the guitar played him. Quote
dave Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Roy Buchanan, again, there difference between great and famous. 1 Quote
