I bought a 6'6 med st croix premeir in April and loved it, until I noticed that the top guide is cracked. Every time I hook up with a fish my line snaps from rubbing on the guide. Has anyone else had problems with st croix. And how is their warranty is it worth it or should I just buy a new rod. I haven't even had the rod for a year

Most likely cracked by dropping it, just pick up a fuji top guide and replace it

Contact St. Croix and tell them your model #, they will probably send you a new guide in the proper size.  Once you get the guide search online for how to replace a tip, or post here and someone can help you.

Yes, exactly what jrob78 is saying! Or, tomustang, either way should do it for you

A cracked guide is no indication of the rod itself, I'd personally go into a tackle shop and get it replaced on the spot for $5, or buy a tip and put it on yourself.

Like has been said, a cracked guide is likely from it contacting a hard surface, and shouldn't be a consideration of the quality of any rod. I had a rod fall over I had leaning against the boat in a parking lot and broke an insert, it was a $340.00 rod and no way a faulty component. You can contact St. Croix and no one will take care of their customers better, but I would just fix it myself like Snookers said, but I would do it just have it fixed sooner as I doubt the eye would cost much or have it done, $5.00 seems to about the going rate at most tackle shops.

I've lost the insert in a couple St. Croix rods myself, always my fault when it happened though. I just replace them myself, pretty easy to do.

I've had very good fortune with my freshwater rods, but not near as good with my saltwater.  I do rinse my rods off after each use, there still is a corrosion factor, I've replaced many guides.  I'm picking one up today from the tackle shop.

Don't know how, but the insert fell out of a St. Croix Avid rod tip top.

I called St. Croix and, since I had spent five minutes registering the rod after I bought it, they sent me a replacement kit at no charge which consisted of tip top, glue and instructions. Glue comes in powder form these days (years ago it was a stick you melted) and all you do is stuff the base of the tip top with it, heat and align. You can (carefully!) reheat to realign if you don't get it right the first time.

This rod was back in action in 10 minutes.
