Super User Montanaro Posted July 19, 2014 Super User Posted July 19, 2014 I've really gotten into cranking this year and now I want a medium heavy ~7 foot rod. Problem is there are so many! Budget is max 150. Was looking at okuma tcs, Powell max (lightweight), Fenwick but I fear it's all cork no blank, and new tatula cranking. Any thoughts or suggestions? Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted July 19, 2014 Super User Posted July 19, 2014 Well if you can find a super sale to get to your price range i'd recommend the dobyns 705cb glass. I think mine cost around 180 and 185. If that's out of range, I'd be very tempted to try the new Shimano Crucial or Fenwick eite tech cb rods. I believe smalljaw said he ordered the new fenwick elite tech 7'2 MH CB rod. I'm interested in what people have to say about those rods. They look promising. I think Daiwa came out /w a tatula glass CB rod. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted July 19, 2014 Super User Posted July 19, 2014 Haven't tried any of the ones you mentioned, but I do have a couple Denali's (crankbait rods) that have been really great rods. Several different models well within your budget. Might be worth looking at if someone near you carries them.. -T9 Quote

kcdinkerz Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Powell diesel crank rod 7 mh mf. It handles squarebills up to medium divers nicely also lipless cranks to. Super light for a low budget rod. Only drawback is no warranty. But you can find it on sale for around 50 bucks. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted July 19, 2014 Author Super User Posted July 19, 2014 Was also looking at lucky crafts glass crankers Quote
Jamesdta Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I like the crucial with tc4. Good action and light. On clearance too Quote

Super User Jeff H Posted July 19, 2014 Super User Posted July 19, 2014 you dont need a high dollar rod for crankin. I agree! Nor for spinnerbaits or most other horizontal straight retrieve presentations. Quote
BigMoneyGrip Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I have the Shimano Crucial and reLly like it. I think it may be 7'2". Quote
Grantman83 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 All the rods listed will do you fine. I would also throw on the mojo glass cranker in 7ft Mh. I used it for awhile and it was great with squarebills and medium divers as well as walking baits. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 19, 2014 Super User Posted July 19, 2014 I picked a Crucial 7' MH this morning and after about 3 hours of fishing it, I would give it a thumbs up. Looks like it will be a keeper. Quote
