FishChaser1 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 So today was my very first time bass fishing in the very early morning. I caught 3 within the first few minutes on a spinner and thought that was how it was gonna be for the rest of the morning. Well after the sun came just above the trees at around 5:40, I didn't get another bite. It was like they just disappeared. I tried throwing around a frog and some different texas rigged worms and still nothing (I did however get a perch and a catfish). Should I have come earlier or are they supposed to continue feeding after the sun comes up? Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted July 18, 2014 Super User Posted July 18, 2014 Have to look at the lunar tables, you may have caught the tail end of a bite/activity from the moon providing more light for them to feed at night. Haven't had much sucsess early myself. Most of my fish have come between 8-11am or 2-4pm. Quote
ThatZX14Fella Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I think at that point in time you just throw everything you've got. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted July 18, 2014 Super User Posted July 18, 2014 the bite from first light to when the sun hits the water is some of the best times during the summer. Once the sun hits the water the bass will either go deeper or get into shallow cover. This makes the bite harder but not impossible. Look for some thick vegetation, or laydowns. Get baits either in the grass or right beside the laydowns on the shady side. 1 Quote

einscodek Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I went out this morning and nailed over 10 fish 2 of which were 18" and the action didnt stop til I decided to leave.. I missed alot of fish as well they were having trouble locating the bait or spitting quickly. I think your mistake was putting away the spinnerbait. Had you moved to similar locations on the lake, they would have likley continued to nail your spinner. Quote
